The house was built in 1803 by English banker Samuel Durfee. The house was built in the federal period, characterized by the unique molding, paneled walls, wide first-floor floorboards, and fan window above the front door. The original twin parlors are now a guest sitting room and dining room. The inn was eventually bought by the de Pinho family in 1998, with the intention of opening it as a bed and breakfast.
