The White Swan Tavern is nestled in rich historical Maryland's Eastern Shore. The story of this place takes you back to 1733 where evidence indicates that the tavern was a tannery operated by the shoemaker of Chestertown, John Lovegrove. Then, Joseph Nicholson purchased the property from Lovegrove in the same year. In 1793, the property passed to John Bordley, who enlarged the residence to accommodate the demands of tavern use. In 1978, the property went through a three-year and five months restoration phase to its 1793 appearance in Bordley's time. In March 1981, The White Swan Tavern opened its doors to the public again! Today the tavern operates as an inn, offering accommodations and afternoon tea, as well as amenities for small conferences, weddings, and receptions.
