Greet moose in Sawtelle Deadwater by early morning light. Discover wild woodlands, mountains, lakes, and wildlife of Northern Maine at 100-acre Shin Pond Village. Thirty campsites, six housekeeping cottages, and three guest suites scatter the woodlands before the Northern entrance to Baxter State Park. Shin Pond Village offers the summer visitor great fishing, uncrowded hiking adventures, plenty of wildlife, and family fun in a peaceful, scenic setting.

Cabins, Cottages, and Chalets
Relax by the campfire and listen for the call of the loons, hike to Sawtelle Deadwater for an excellent chance of a moose sighting, hike to the summit of Mt. Chase, or fish Lake Matagamon, home to the Matagamon Boy Scout Base, an adventure camp for scouts worldwide.
Don’t forget your fishing pole! Upper and Lower Shin Pond, each being over 500 acres, are stocked with Trout and landlocked Salmon. Numerous rivers and lakes are plentiful within a fifteen minute drive.
Avid hunters prepare: the Shin Pond area offers excellent hunting for both big and small game! If you’re here for bear come in September through November. Bird hunters hold off until October when Partridge are abundant. Here for the elusive moose? The Moose hunt is one week in October and hunters are drawn by lottery, while deer hunting is the month of November.
Spacious Guest Suites have studio kitchens, private bathrooms and are furnished with linens, towels and cookware. Each suite has two full or queen beds, one single bed and futon. Housekeeping Cottages at Shin Pond Village offer full amenities with all the bedding, towels, cookware, full kitchens, and bathrooms. Two of the original cottages have fireplaces. The views of Mt. Chase and Lower Shin Pond are spectacular from your porch.
