Meet Marty Appel New York Yankees historian and award-winning author of 24 baseball books including “Pinstripe Empire” and “Casey Stengel: Baseball’s Greatest Character”. The New York Times has referred to Appel as one of baseball’s premier authorities on the New York Yankees. Appel worked for the Yankees from 1968-77 and in 1973 at the age of 23 became Major League Baseball’s youngest Public Relations Director (hired by then-owner George Steinbrenner, his career with the Yankees began by answering Mickey Mantle’s fan mail). He went on to become the Yankees’ television producer in the 1980s-90s. Appel will share stories and answer questions about the New York Yankees and the July, 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame celebration featuring Yankees inductees, Mariano Rivera and Mike Mussina. “The unanimous selection to the Hall of Fame of the great Mariano Rivera, along with his illustrious teammate Mike Mussina puts Yankee history front and center,” says Appel. “No team provides the lore of the Yankees. I’m looking forward to talking baseball and meeting fans at the beautiful Emerson Resort & Spa as a wonderful prelude to a historic weekend.”
