The Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival will be showcasing all the local talent of Delaware on September 8th, and has been doing so over the past four decades! You can browse the collections of over 100 artists, which include pottery, glass, jewelry, and paintings. This is also a juried event, so you’ll see the best of the best and be surrounded by the breathtakingly beautiful artwork at every turn. ResortsandLodges.com had a chance to talk with the manager, Katie Nevin, to get an insider’s scoop of this wonderful event.
RAL: Tell us a little bit about the event. How long has it been running?
KN: This year marks the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Fest’s 40th anniversary!
RAL: What demographic does your event attract?
KN: Anyone who has an interest in the local artistic talent at Bethany Beach! Families, kids, and those looking for a special, unique gift are all welcome to come and support the arts.
RAL: What makes this event unique?
KN: This event not only has a great variety of art made at the local level, but it’s also a lovely showcase of the talent that Bethany Beach has. Over 100 juried artists showcase and sell their work, and represent a variety of different mediums including pottery, photography, metalwork, clay, and jewelry. It’s a great chance to see the wide variety of talent, and guests are invited to shop not only the festival, but also local businesses, and explore the area’s many local art galleries.
RAL: Take me through a day at the event.
KN: The anniversary event will begin at 10:00 am, and features fun for the whole family. There will be an interactive mural, featuring local artist John Donato. Guests are invited to stop by Donato’s booth on the bandstand to be part of the art and help to create a wonderful, whimsical mural! There will also be a silent action, which will feature works of art generously donated by the festival’s artists. There will also be a cocktail party the next day, and a meet-the-artists brunch the next morning as well.
RAL: Any special guests?
KN: On top of John Donato, there’s going to be live music from the Mystic Warriors throughout the day, and a live radio broadcast from WGDM from 10:00 am to noon.
RAL: What is the atmosphere like?
KN: Festive, creative, and unforgettable! There’s plenty to see and do around the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival. We encourage creativity here and love seeing local talent.
RAL: Does the event support a special cause in the community?
KN: Yes! The proceeds from the silent action will support the programs of four local elementary schools in the Quiet Resorts Region, and we’re hoping to raise a lot of money for the art classrooms. It also helps all of the local artists by showcasing their craft.
RAL: Why should people come to your event?
KN: It’s a wonderful community event! Celebrate the local arts at the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival, and pick up some wonderful gifts while enjoying the atmosphere and music.
