Seattle Wine & Food Experience: A Savory Celebration in the Emerald City

Featuring a cosmopolitan nucleus surrounded by stunning natural beauty, Seattle is the ultimate destination when considering a Washington getaway. First-time visitors should head for the vibrant Pike Place Market, which was founded in 1907 and features markets, shops, restaurants, and more. The Emerald City also features a wealth of cultural attractions such as the Museum of Pop Culture and Chihuly Garden and Glass.

The Seattle Wine & Food Experience has introduced thousands of people to an assortment of delicious foods and drinks from the Pacific Northwest over the past decade, and it will take place February 22-24. The event features three can't miss activities: Comfort, Pop! Bubbles & Seafood, and The Grand Tasting. Comfort is a showcase of comfort foods, craft beers, and more. Attendees will find a variety of food and beverage pairings as well as delicious treats like burgers and fried chicken. Pop! Bubbles & Seafood is the signature activity and patrons are encouraged to dress to impress. The event will feature a variety of regional seafood prepared by well know local restaurants, as well as top-tier wines and champagnes from across the world. Last but not least, The Grand Tasting brings an end to the festivities with a showcase of the regions' wines, foods, and lifestyle. From sampling bites created by Seattle’s top chefs to a variety of sensory experiences, this activity has something for everyone. ResortsandLodges.com interviewed Event Representative, Lauren Madeja, to learn more about this Seattle culinary shindig.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

LM: The Seattle Wine & Food Experience is celebrating its 10th year! In total, the event draws about 3,000 people, and these guests usually include couples and groups of friends looking to have a great time tasting delicious food, delectable wine, and craft beer. This event is unique because it spans three days, with something different for everyone. Comfort caters to the beer, cider and comfort food-lovers, Pop! Bubbles & Seafood caters to the upscale seafood and sparkling wine-lovers, and the Grand Tasting pulls everyone together for a day of gourmet food, wine, and more through a series of experiences and interactive discoveries.

RAL: Take me through a day at the event. What can I expect as an attendee?

LM: Comfort – February 22, 2018: Arriving at Sodo Park, you'll encounter the relaxed and cozy atmosphere of the venue and will immediately get to try over 40 companies from around the Northwest and their many unique offerings. Thirsty? There will be about 50 beers, 30 ciders, a Bloody Mary bar, and some cozy cocktails. Hungry? We’ve got all your favorite comfort foods from grilled cheese to chili to burgers, fries and more. We’ve even got a couple of dessert items to satisfy your sweet tooth. All in all, this event is perfect for those who enjoy the laid-back feel of our region.

Pop! Bubbles & Seafood – February 23, 2018: McCaw Hall is known for its gorgeous architecture and beautiful performances. We’re gathering everyone together in their best-dressed outfits to celebrate the sparkling wines and gourmet seafood that the PNW is famous for. Over 40 different sparkling wines, as well as 20 other red and white selections, will be available for sipping and strolling through the grand McCaw Hall foyer. Chowder, salmon belly, octopus, an oyster bar and more await you, and make sure to stick around for our brand new oyster shucking competition!

The Grand Tasting – February 24, 2018: Rounding out the weekend is the event that started it all – the Seattle Wine & Food Experience Grand Tasting, held this year at the newly remodeled Bell Harbor International Conference Center. Upon entry, guests will be wowed by the design and layout of the event, as they make their way into the first floor’s experiences. On this level, you will be able to sample from a couple of restaurants (part of our 10 food trends to celebrate 10 years of the Grand Tasting), wines from Washington and Oregon, and unique, interactive experiences from our sponsors. Head up to the second floor, and you’ll find more restaurants, wines from California, cocktails, beer, cider, dessert, and a lively 70’s-themed lounge from Tulalip Resort Casino. You can also catch a live demonstration from one of our partners at our SWFE Stage, including sushi rolling, cake decorating, cocktail creating, and more.

RAL: Are there any lodging specials that are set up for the event.

LM: We are partnering with Hotel Theodore to provide discounted rooms for our guests who are visiting from out of town. Use this link to get the discounted rate.

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

LM: This event brings attention to some of the most beloved restaurants, wineries, and breweries from around the Pacific Northwest. The event is going to benefit Northwest Harvest, a statewide hunger relief agency that provides access to nutritious food while respecting dignity and promoting good health.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

LM: This event is unlike any other because of its catered experience to each guest. The delicious food, wine, and beer alone would be enough to make any guest leave happy. We take it a step further and put thought behind each facet with pairings, brand new products, unique twists on classic favorites, and activities for guests to capture their memories and keep for years to come.
