A Family Friendly Time Awaits at Mortimer Farms Sweet Corn Festival

If it’s a little slice of paradise that you’re looking for, Dewey, Arizona offers the perfect blend of country hospitality and historical landscapes for a wonderful vacation destination. The town features a story dating back to the 1500’s that includes Spanish settlers and explorers seeking riches of gold and silver, with farmers and miners following in their wake. Now, the quaint town provides a wonderful atmosphere that ties together a mining past with a more agrarian present day. Dewey is also located just 15 miles from amazing Prescott, which sits high at 5,200 feet and has the largest stand of ponderosa pine forests in the United States. Explore Whiskey Row, with over 40 famous saloons, and gain a deeper understanding about the lives of famous cowboys such as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Enjoy this amazing little piece of rural Arizona culture, and while you’re here, you can check out Mortimer Farms!

Mortimer Farms has been a favorite attraction of the Dewey area, and you can celebrate Dewey’s agricultural roots during their Sweet Corn Festival from September 1-2, which offers plenty of fun for everyone! With a light and fun atmosphere, this festival is perfect for even the youngest members of your family, as everyone enjoys picking succulent berries and enjoying hearty homemade meals. ResortsandLodges.com was able to interview Ashlee Mortimer of Mortimer Farms to get the scoop on this fun event!

RAL: How long has the event been running?

AM: The Sweet Corn Festival has been going on for about nine years.

RAL: How many annual attendees do you expect?

AM: About 4,000 people come for the Sweet Corn Festival.

RAL: Who will enjoy your event?

AM: We have something for everyone! Families and children are attracted to the event due to the family atmosphere and the many games, rides, and activities. People who are interested in learning about where their food comes from, where it’s grown, and who grows it all find themselves attracted to the Farm. Beer lovers and wine lovers also enjoy our locally-made beer.

RAL: Take me through a day in the event. What can I expect as an attendee?

AM: There are plenty of activities to pick from, including You Pick Berries, sweet corn, zip lines and tire slides. A straw maze and farm inspired rides, plus hayride tours, makes for a wonderful experience for everyone attending! With a wholesome, fun, family farm experience, everyone will be sure to enjoy the festivities. A special meal, cooked in the farm, is included with admission price! There’s also tons of amazing food in the Country store, with fresh made bakery items in Grandma’s Kitchen and locally-sourced produce and meat.

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

AM: This event drives in lots of business to the local economy. Our town is very small, so it’s always a good thing to get 4000 extra people into town. Since the community is such an important part of our operation, we make sure to help our friends and neighbors by giving back. All we ask is when guests attend, they bring 2 cans of non perishable items. We will donate them to the Yavapai Food Bank and do the rest!

RAL: What makes the Sweet Corn Festival a good experience for travelers?

AM: We give families and children a wholesome, clean, fun place to enjoy the outdoors and learn a little about what farmers and ranchers do every day and why they do it! Kids and their parents are even able to harvest produce and berries themselves with our Pick n’ Play and have a blast on all of our rides and activities! It’s the perfect place for families to gather and fun to be had!
