Head to New York’s Finest Artisans and Crafters on Display

As the site of America’s invasion of Canada during the War of 1812, Lewiston is a historically significant destination complete with excellent accommodations, large community events, and attractions for all ages. Outdoor enthusiasts will love visiting Fort Niagara and Joseph DavisState Parks, and walking along the banks of Niagara River provides stunning views of the area’s unique geography. Make sure to stop by the Lewiston Museum, highlighting the rich history of the community and the role it played in the Underground Railroad.

The Lewiston Harvest Festival is the go-to Fall event in the Niagara Valley, and it will take place September 23-24, in Downtown Lewiston. This year’s event will feature more than 100 of the best artisans and crafters from New York State, selling everything from original paintings to handmade candles. Patrons will also encounter a variety of farmers, vendors, and wineries in the Farmer's Market selling wines, snacks, artisan foods, fresh produce, and more. The theme for this year's entertainment is “International Music In The Peace Garden,” and attendees will get to listen to music from a different culture each day. Attendees of all ages can participate in the Lewiston Recreation Department Recreation Fair, which includes a variety of fun games and activities. We got the chance to interview Christina Crane, a representative of the event, to learn more about this great celebration.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

CC: This is the 34th year for the Lewiston Harvest Festival. It has been a fall favorite for many in the Village of Lewiston!

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw?

CC: The festival typically draws between 5,000 and 10,000 people per year. Every year the festival has grown, and this will be the first year the street will be closed for the Harvest Festival.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract? Children? Families? Couples?

CC: The Harvest Festival attracts a wide variety of participants. We see a large number of families because of the variety of vendors along with the affordability of the festival.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

CC:  The event brings a variety of one-of-a-kind vendors to our community. The festival has a designated Farmer’s Market area with local produce, baked goods, and a couple of wineries from the Niagara Wine Trail. For this year's festival, there will be “International Music In The Peace Garden” all weekend long, which is sponsored by the Lewiston Council on the Arts, the Lewiston/Niagara on the Lake Rotary Club, and the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce. Each day will feature music from different cultures including Native American, Scottish, African American, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Polish, Japanese, and Italian.

RAL: Take me through the activities of a day at the event.

CC: Attendees can walk along Center Street and visit a wide variety of vendors. You can stop and purchase some items throughout the day. There will also be tasty treats available from some of our food/snack vendors! The Village of Lewiston Recreation Department will also have their Recreation Fair taking place on Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm for the children. Plus, we have a face painter for the kids.

RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?

CC: While we have some vendors selling snack items, we also want attendees to visit the Village of Lewiston restaurants.

RAL: Tell us about the atmosphere?

CC: The atmosphere during Harvest Festival weekend is warm, welcoming, and in the spirit of the season! There is so much to explore along Center Street and truly something for the entire family!

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

CC: The Lewiston Harvest Festival is a fall favorite within the Village of Lewiston. As the busy summer season comes to a close, the Lewiston Harvest Festival embraces the fall season and drives people to our community from Western New York, Southern Ontario, and beyond. The festival shows that things are happening within the community throughout the year!

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

CC: You should attend the Lewiston Harvest Festival to welcome the fall season! Attend a great event with a local feel from the beginning to the end of Center Street! Find great gifts for the upcoming holiday season from our vendors and enjoy a memorable meal at one of our many great restaurants! Don’t forget to stop by our retailers and pick up a little something for yourself during the festival weekend. Many of our retailers will have some great promotions taking place all weekend long.
