Enjoy Beautiful La Jolla at this Spectacular Wine and Art Experience

La Jolla’s stunning beaches, unique shops, and world-class accommodations make it the ideal destination for a beachfront California escape. Great year-round weather and a mellow surf make the city the perfect place for watersports such as surfing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, and more. Make sure not to leave the city before sampling the local cuisine at The Marine Room, Catania, and Eddie V’s Prime Seafood.

The La Jolla Art and Wine Festival (LJAWF) is one of the leading art and wine experiences in California, and it will take place October 7-8 in downtown La Jolla. Attendees will encounter a juried art show featuring more than 150 artists from California and beyond. Including craft beers from the San Diego Area and wines from around the world, the Beer and Wine Garden is a must for any beer lover of age. A silent auction will have trip and spa packages, restaurant certificates, jewelry, clothes, and more. The Geppetto’s Family Art Center and Lab allows attendees to paint cars, watch demonstrations and movies, and listen to family-friendly music. Local performers such as The Sea Monks, Full Strength Funk Band, and Stone Horse will perform live on the main stage throughout. The La Jolla Art and Wine Gourmet Food Court will feature gourmet snacks and meals from some great regional food vendors. All of the event's proceeds will go to local elementary and middle schools to help support arts programs. ResortsandLodges.com interviewed Camille Riley, a representative for the event to learn about this great festival.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

CR: Nine years! We started in a school parking lot and have grown into a multi-block festival with hundreds of artists!

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw?

CR: We have about 150-200 artists, and we see about 12,000-15,000 people throughout the weekend.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract? Children? Families? Couples?

CR: LJAWF attracts people of all ages. We see a wide range of attendees due to the different facets of the event. The Geppettos Family Art Center and Lab offers activities where families  can get hands-on and creative with art projects. We see a lot of young adults who want to enjoy wine tastings and live music. We have art collectors, who come solely for the artists. It’s a great place to browse incredible art, indulge in scrumptious food, sip on fine wines, and enjoy the atmosphere of the La Jolla Village. There is no better place to spend your day outdoors!

RAL: What makes this event unique?

CR: The local schools own the event! How many schools can say they own a world-famous art show? All of our money goes back to supporting underfunded creative programs for students in elementary and middle schools in our community.

RAL: Take me through the activities of a day at the event.

CR: Browse hundreds of hand-selected artists featuring a wide range of talents. Stop by the Geppetto’s Family Art Center and Lab and put your artistic mark on one of our painted automobiles. Dance and enjoy live music throughout the day in the shaded beer and wine garden. Sip and savor selections from over 30 wineries before stopping by the Gourmet Food Court for unique dining options!

RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?

CR: Stop in any of the boutique restaurants in La Jolla Village, or stop by the Gourmet Food Court offering amazing foods for a variety of tastes. Only the best-of-the-best food vendors and gourmet food trucks are invited to participate!

RAL: Tell us about the overall atmosphere.

CR: Bustling and creative, inviting, and fun! Everywhere you look, people have a smile on their face!

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

CR: The hotels in La Jolla are some of the finest and unique hotels in San Diego. Many boast ocean views and are just steps away from the beautiful Pacific Ocean!

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

CR: Absolutely! Our artists come from across the United States to exhibit, and people travel from surrounding counties to enjoy the event.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

CR: The atmosphere of the LJAWF is truly one of a kind. It's sophisticated, yet fun. The weather is incredible, you are steps from the beach, and you have the opportunity to see the most incredible artists in the US and beyond all in one area!
