Groove out in Northern California!

Northern California has always been a gorgeous place to travel. From the Redwood Forests to the gorgeous cliffside coastline of the Pacific Ocean, you’ll always find something beautiful and wonderful to do. Explore the Bay Area, with the gleaming San Francisco and its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, and enjoy fresh seafood on Fisherman’s Wharf or travel to famous Alcatraz Island. Yosemite National Park offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the traveler that showcases some of America’s wilderness, while Muir Woods is a gorgeous, jungle-like experience popular with outdoor enthusiasts and campers alike. And of course, what could make for a better summer vacation than enjoying the banks of Lake Tahoe, with its crystal clear waters and balmy temperatures? No matter if it’s the city life or the call of the wild, Northern California is your place for an unforgettable adventure.

And what better way to complete a trip to Northern California than with a boisterous celebration of funk music? For the Funk of It is Northern California’s premier all funk musical festival, filled with three days and nights of good times and good people. Featuring three stages that will fill Belden Town with the freshest, funkiest music you can think of, you’ll have a blast at this amazing music experience! ResortsandLodges.com was able to interview Spencer Rouse, Organizer of For the Funk of It, for more details on this amazing musical jamboree.

RAL: Tell us a little about the event.

SR: We started this event after an ongoing discussion about why there was no all funk festival in Northern California back in 2012. We had every other genre of music except for funk, hence the name, For the Funk Of It. This will be our fifth year!

RAL: How many annual attendees do you draw?

SR: Between the bands, volunteers, and attendees, there are around 1,000 people on-site during the festival.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract?

SR: For the most part we attract singles and couples, with a few children in the mix.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

SR: Besides being the only all funk camping festival on this side of the Rockies, we are also located in the beautiful Feather River Canyon, right on the Feather River. There’s a beach stage right next to the sandy beach, and the main stage itself is about 50 yards away from the water. In addition, there are cabins, hotel rooms, a full bar (with a stage!) and restaurant as well as RV spots with full hookups and a variety of vendors. We are also very proud of Hornmageddon, a massing of horn players (up to 27 so far!) all performing together on Saturday night!

RAL: Take me through a day at the event.

SR: Generally, the day starts with a meal from the restaurant or one of our vendors. Then there’s a little swimming and beach time before the main stage starts up. After that it’s music, music, music, until dawn every night!

RAL: What can travelers expect for guest appearances?

SR: You’ll find an impressive array of funk artists that attend the festival, and we also have Artists-at-Large that sit in with other bands for a couple of songs.

RAL: Why should guests come to your event?

SR: Besides the beautiful setting, intimate venue with ample amenities, the crowd and the vibe, our festival is decidedly different than most. It’s a very loving, supportive and cooperative community!
