All are drawn to a land laden with pink gold and the dangerous tantrums of Mother Nature. A short history lesson will uncover that even the most timid seek to vacation by these waters. Fort Myers Beach has long been an attraction to explorers, homesteaders, shrimp netters, pirates and those in need of tropical repose. More recently, only shrimp netters and leisure travelers frequent the white sand and topaz Gulf of Mexico. Although we don’t have enough knowledge to speak for shrimp netters, we can assure tropical travelers that any choice on our list of Top 10 Fort Myers Beach Resorts is the ideal location for a Florida vacation.

Paint a picture of your perfect Fort Myers Beach vacation. Ours involved a cocktail in a pineapple, a large beach umbrella in the sand and plates of seafood. We can’t speak for everyone’s illustration, but we’re fairly confident each picture has one thing in common: the resplendent Florida sunshine.

Diamond Head Beach Resort not only sports the warming rays of southern sun, it’s also a SunStream Resort. Our No. 3 resort is the last of the SunStream triplets on our list and that can have its advantages. After all, some of the most valuable lessons are learned from siblings. Diamond Head certainly picked up on the Florida luxury accommodations and home-like comfort aspects. But Diamond Head has also added flavor of its own, like Chloe’s restaurant offering fresh seafood and steaks and vistas of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sand is only welcomed in certain places. Like between your toes. But not in your swimsuit bottom. Sand shouldn’t be used as a cooking ingredient or toothpaste additive, except maybe in a prank. But sand is still a vital component of the perfect Fort Myers Beach vacation.

Luckily, our No. 9 spot has plenty of sand, and they know how to use it. The Outrigger Beach Resort has been a site for Florida fun for more than 40 years. We were first attracted to its quirky and unique suggestions on their list of 101 things to do while staying there. Instead of mountain biking or a moonlit stroll, they suggest beach biking and moonlit kayaking. We may even quit trying to just lay on their stretch of soft sand and catch a tan in exchange for item No. 96: mount a horseshoe crab on a piece of driftwood. If this is not what you had anticipated hanging on your fireplace mantle at home, don’t worry. Though we can’t argue with the appeal of putting a twist on beach activities, Outrigger has a myriad of other activities. Search for sand dollars, fly a kite or lounge in the pool-side Tiki Bar.

Florida’s two most well-known mascots are Disney’s Mickey Mouse and the Miami Dolphins’ dolphin. Though we find the former adorable in its own right, our No. 10 resort chose to focus on the latter intelligent and gentle creature of the sea.

Sitting atop the highest leaf, you look out and see the Gulf of Mexico stretched out for miles and miles before you. No, we did not put you in a palm tree or tropical plant – you are in a suite on the top floor of our No. 5 spot!

The most striking aspect of Casa Playa is not the view you can see from your room inside – although that is captivating – it is seeing the hotel from the outside. The coral pink stairs are resting places for bronze pots, some with emerald green fronds wrapping around the building, and the background is awash in a buttery yellow. With such a colorful exterior, provided by local artist Angela Savko, you’ll easily find your way back after a day shopping and dining in Fort Myers Beach or just relaxing on Casa Playa’s private beach. Casa Playa will also become a landmark Florida home away from home for your pet. As the only AAA Three-Diamond resort on Fort Myers Beach that is also pet-friendly, this Estero Island resort provides upscale comfort and welcomes the whole family with that warm, Southern hospitality!
