For a plantation, this place sure has a lot of stuff. Well, actually it’s not a plantation. But with 145 acres, a hotel, a condominium resort and most importantly a Rees Jones-designed championship Myrtle Beach golf course, it definitely brings to mind the grandeur of the South.

We’ve really just scratched the surface here. We haven’t mentioned the 50,000-square-foot Splash! oceanfront waterpark, the Sport and Health Club with spa and massage services or the clay and hard surface tennis courts. There are also several restaurants, lounges, drive-through establishments and more for onsite dining. But let’s get to the really good stuff. Arcadian Shores is the onsite par 72 championship Myrtle Beach golf course, featuring five tee locations and a maximum distance of 6,857 yards. This traditional course features just about every natural wonder - and hazard - that’s common to Myrtle Beach, including freshwater lakes, Tifton Bermuda greens, fairways lined with live oaks and, of course, plenty of sand. It’s part of one of the largest Myrtle Beach resort complexes - pretty far from an actual plantation, but with every bit of charm and regality.

Highlights

Privately-owned one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom condominiums occupy the Brighton, North Hampton, South Hampton, and the luxurious new Margate Toweres overlooking the beaches of Kingston Plantation.

Getting there

From Myrtle Beach Airport, turn right at first light onto Robert M. Grissom Parkway. Continue approximately seven miles and merge onto Hwy 31 North. Follow Hwy 31 North for approximately five miles to Hwy 22 East. From Hwy 22 take the Kings Road Exit, turning right at bottom of ramp. Follow Kings Road for 1.2 miles and the Kingston Plantation entrance is on the left.

Related Onsite Offerings

Both the Embassy Suites Hotel and the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort offer extensive facilities for conferences and events. Services include full catering, A/V and group incentives.

It turns out that fall lines are good - very good for golf. That’s a large part of the beauty of Pawleys Plantation, which exemplifies the South Carolina Lowcountry. We’re talking 200-year old moss-draped oaks, serene ocean inlets, fresh and salt water all around. This is Myrtle Beach golf!

The course happens to be designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Well, it doesn’t just happen to be: this locale has a way of attracting legends of golf. In this case, that means plenty of fairway, greens that blend with the surroundings and the completely natural, beautiful hazard of the Pawleys Island salt marsh. None of this comes without a great helping of Lowcountry hospitality. Your accommodations are spacious, one- to four-bedroom Myrtle Beach golf villas, and the perks include privileges at the nearby fitness center. Topping it off is the clubhouse, complete with a swimming pool, pro shop, two restaurants and the Palmetto Pub. You might be on the low side of the fall line, but it’s certainly worth the drop.

Extra Stops

Visit Georgetown, South Carolina’s second-oldest seaport, just eight miles to the south and sample authentic Southern antiquing, shopping and harborwalk restaurant dining.

Getting there

From Myrtle Beach, take the Bypass 17 South to Pawleys Island. The entrance to Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club is 2.3 miles south of the Hammock Shops on the left.

Related Onsite Offerings

Meeting facilities at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club include a 6,500-sq.-ft. conference center, a Grand Foyer and a Veranda.

We’ve heard the buzz about the new Oceanfront Dunes Village Resort: along with a 20,000-sq.-ft. pool deck and a full range of accommodations, it’s also the home of Myrtle Beach’s only indoor waterpark. You could almost forget that it’s a terrific place for a Myrtle Beach golf vacation. Well, almost.

Actually, the experience Dunes Village Resort has planning golf vacations far pre-dates the waterpark. The resort has employed a Golf Department for 30 years, and today they facilitate more than 400,000 rounds of golf per year among dozens of the finest Myrtle Beach golf courses including Whispering Pines, Farmstead Golf Links and many more. Of course, it’s hard not to mention the combined indoor and outdoor waterparks here, which add up to 30,000 square feet and include a 250-foot river ride and Myrtle Beach's first adult-sized indoor waterslides. We mention this because we know you’ve always got golf on your mind, especially in Myrtle Beach. But it’s always good to come up with something new to do during the rare times you’re not on the course.

Highlights

The Oceanfront Deluxe four-bedroom condominiums at Dunes Village Resort feature four baths including two with Jacuzzi tubs, five TVs, full kitchen and complete living and dining areas. Oceanfront studios, suites and one- to three-bedroom condos are also available.

Never mind that Brunswick Plantation is actually in Calabash, North Carolina - it’s minutes from the famous Grand Strand, and as close to fabulous Myrtle Beach golf courses as any resort in the area. The best part is that it’s not just a Myrtle Beach golf resort - it’s a Myrtle Beach golf community.

Actually, being this discrete distance from all the excitement has its advantages. Namely, exclusivity: the coastal lifestyle comes through very clearly here, blending the sun and fun of Myrtle Beach with a casual, elegant resort atmosphere. That means indoor/outdoor pools, tennis courts, a private sauna and plenty of fitness-related facilities and activities, all meant to be enjoyed at your pace. And, of course, there’s golf. The Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood courses at Brunswick form a 27-hole playground for golfers, including the exquisite challenge of Scottish links, the beauty of Carolina woodlands and open freedom among water and hardwood trees. There’s a practice putting green here, too, along with a chipping green and a driving range. This is the best of Myrtle Beach golf - before you even reach Myrtle Beach!

Extra Stops

Calabash is known as the “Seafood Capital of the World.” It’s grown from a fishing village into a small town of about 1,400, but there are more than 30 restaurants here serving world-class fresh-caught fare.

Highlights

The island green signature hole on the Azalea course is surrounded by oyster shells - beautiful and dangerous at the same time!

Related Onsite Offerings

If you’d like to stay for more than a while (who wouldn’t?), Brunswick Plantation also offers homes and condominiums for sale across its 1,750 beautiful acres.

This Myrtle Beach resort is just across from the renowned Barefoot Landing. But the resemblance to other Myrtle Beach resorts stops there. Did someone say golf? It’s never far from your mind at Ocean Creek Resort, a gated enclave amid surroundings that bring an old-style grand plantation to mind.

This is a completely different feel from the beachfront towers you might picture when you think of a Myrtle Beach vacation - instead, Ocean Creek Resort is spread over 57 acres of moss-draped oaks and creekside condominiums. That might tell you something about the passion for golf here: the many Ocean Creek packages have names like Extreme and Triple Play, and they all feature the area’s top courses: Arrowhead, Barefoot, Aberdeen, Wildwood Avocet and many more. And despite the extensive indoor and outdoor pools, huge oceanfront playground and volleyball courts, lodge villas, tennis villas, garden homes and a complete tennis center at Ocean Creek Resort, you never get the feeling that you’ve left the course… in this relaxed and secluded environment, it’s always golf time.

Extra Stops

Directly across from Ocean Creek Resort, Barefoot Landing features a boardwalk, dock and 27-acre lake along with shopping, dining and entertainment in the carefully recreated ambiance of an old fishing village.

We wouldn’t know, but we hear that golf is a game best played following a good night’s sleep between 300-thread-count imported cotton sheets and European duvets. If you’re curious, you can find out for yourself at the luxurious Marina Inn at Grande Dunes.

This luxury Myrtle Beach resort takes you outside of Myrtle Beach - outside of the U.S., really - with its Mediterranean and European styles. And that’s before you leave your room or suite. This is all in the context of a master-planned residential resort featuring a 130-slip marina on the Intracoastal Waterway, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center and the exquisite Grande Dunes Tennis Club. It’s fitting that championship golf would be part of the layout at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. The 7,600-yard Resort Club at Grande Dunes features seven holes along the Intracoastal Waterway, Bermuda fairways, bent grass greens, and more than 34 acres of freshwater lakes. And the Members Club at Grande Dunes features natural pine preserves and an elegant 27,000-square-foot Italian-designed clubhouse.

Highlights

The Ocean Club at Grande Dunes will take your breath away with its Tuscan-style architecture and oceanfront ambiance - it’s one of the most luxurious venues on the Eastern seaboard.

Getting there

From Myrtle Beach International Airport, turn left onto Jetport Road. Turn right onto Harrelson Blvd. Turn right onto Route 17 Bypass North. Turn left at the Dixie Stampede sign onto Grande Dunes Blvd., then turn left just before the guardhouse. Follow signs to take you to the Marina Inn.

Related Onsite Offerings

The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes offers four dining establishments including the elegant Waterways, the waterfront Reflections and Anchor Café, plus the secluded Beach Cabana. In-room dining is available as well.

It’s safe to say that everything about Legends Golf Resorts focuses on golf. The six courses here span landscapes from Myrtle Beach to Scotland and a great many philosophies of course design. All told, it’s one of the finest Myrtle Beach golf resorts - for that matter, any golf resort anywhere.

The prevailing theme tips toward Scotland, or at least that of a small Scottish village - a distinct style that permeates the elegant golf villas and the central Ailsa Pub (named for a Scottish golf landmark, of course). Naturally some of the courses follow suit, namely the par 71 Heathland course and the wildly rising, Pete Dye-designed par 72 Moorland course. Yet it’s probably no coincidence that the golf villas are surrounded by the Parklands course, which celebrates the natural terrain of South Carolina. Of course, we’d be remiss if we did not mention the TPC course - all five stars of it, the home of the PGA Tour's TPC of Myrtle Beach and former site of the SENIOR TOUR Championship. For a resort where golf is the beginning, middle and end of your Myrtle Beach vacation - sa Bhriathrachan Bheag to Legends.

Highlights

Besides the Myrtle Beach TPC course, Heathland, Moorland and Parkland, you’ll find plenty of premiere Myrtle Beach golf at the par 70 Oyster Bay.

Fun facts

The Heritage Plantation course pays homage to the centuries-old rice culture of Myrtle Beach, featuring more than 600 acres of giant magnolias, 300-year-old oaks, freshwater lakes and marshes.

Related Onsite Offerings

The Legends clubhouse offers space for up to 200 guests, perfect for banquets, ceremonies and receptions, plus meeting space for smaller groups at Ailsa Pub.
