There’s no doubt that you’ll succumb to the grip that Predator Ridge has on you when you see this majestic resort perched in the rolling hills of Okanagan Valley – British Columbia’s four-season playground. This preening beauty is known for its award-winning golf course – but there’s so much more!

We can’t deny it; your breath will indeed be taken away when you see the two-time winner of the BCPGA Facility of the Year – even if you aren’t a golfer! But the link-style bunkering and amazing 578-yard downhill par-five will surely tempt you, regardless of if you are a die-hard golfer or not. And it’s all framed beautifully by 1,200 acres of bubbling streams, wheatgrass meadows and pine-covered ridges. Not a putting pro but still want to enjoy the Okanagan Valley landscape? That’s what the beautifully-maintained hiking and walking trails are for! Painted turtles, owls and red-winged blackbirds will be your guide. If the wilderness looks better to you through the window of a climate-controlled room, then the onsite Aveda Concept Spa is your place to enjoy Predator Ridge. Its treatments like the Okanagan Fruit Facial let you experience the outdoors inside and leave you blissed to the bone.

Delta Sun Peaks is at the peak of perfection when it comes to British Columbia skiing. Ranked Canada’s second best ski resort and third largest in the country, this European village-style resort climbs to new heights in Thompson Okanagan – and invites you to as well!

With 360-degree views from this ski-in, ski-out resort, the sky is literally the limit. Or is it? Hop the lift and head up Tod and Sundance Mountains or Mt. Morrisey and try out more than 3,650 skiable acres jam-packed with 121 runs. Now, about that airtime – if the massive black diamond terrain doesn’t pump enough adrenaline into your veins, then a death-defying heli skiing trip may just do the trick. And if that seems a little too frightening (it was for us!), Delta Sun Peaks Resort offers other exhilarating snow fun, like cross-country skiing and a chance to mush your own canine team while dog sledding. Regardless of your snowbound pursuits, you can rest assured that your ski-wielding feet will have a much-needed recovery in front of your room or suite’s warm fireplace, inside the soaking tub and under the soft and ample bedcovers. And the resort’s three whirlpools are oh-so soothing!

“Waytk,” or welcome to Talking Rock Resort and Quaaout Lodge. To hear words like “Waytk” spoken in the language of the Little Shuswap Indian Band here is not uncommon. Also not uncommon is to feel a deep connection with nature – something that the First Nations people know a thing or two about.

Experience Thompson Okanagan in a way that you most likely have not (at least we haven’t) at this 66-room resort resting on the edge of Little Shuswap Lake. Culturally rich and mysteriously intriguing, Talking Rock blends age-old Native traditions with classic hotel-style amenities and activities, like golf and gourmet dining. It’s a true twist on the timeless lake vacation. Take for instance the Talking Rock Golf Course. Intertwined with the various holes are fascinating elements of Native art and traditions. Sure there’s all the standards – pool and whirlpool, fully-equipped gym and 2,400 ft. of beach. But where else can you immerse yourself in genuine Native history and culture through exploring teepees and kekulis (underground houses) and relaxing in a traditional sweat lodge? And the Native dishes at the onsite Jack Sam’s Restaurant are must-eats – especially the venison, cedar board salmon steak and buffalo ragout.

Highlights

Talking Rock Golf Course opened in August of 2007 and is situated in a mature sandy forest with a breathtaking 18th hole along Little Shuswap Lake.

Getting there

Talking Rock Resort and Quaaout Lodge is located midway between Vancouver and Calgary, three minutes from the Trans Canada Highway. Turn south off Hwy. 1 at the Squilax Bridge (located 10 minutes east of Chase) and follow the signs to Talking Rock.

You won’t get a better view of Okanagan Lake than the one from your room balcony at The Cove Lakeside Resort – and trust us, if the mysterious lake monster, Ogopogo, does exist, you’re likely to see it here!

Situated right on the water’s edge, this new Westbank resort isn’t just for those interested in seeing the Loch Ness Monster’s sister, but for everyone who appreciates true comfort in a beautiful lakeside setting. Don’t get us wrong; these suites are not quaint by any means. But the plush couches, understated décor in deep earth tones and full-size kitchen do give off homelike vibes. After you’ve sufficiently broken in your suite, head down to the welcoming lobby and out into the picture-perfect courtyard – complete with a big lakeside pool, whirlpool and even a waterslide! While you’d probably be set just staying on the grounds of The Cove and taking advantage of the super fun amenities, like the 16-person movie theater and the Bikram Hot Yoga classes, it wouldn’t be doing this amazing region justice to just stay in one place. The nearby Gellatly Nut Farm, featuring 100-year-old trees, warrants a visit for sure!

Experience both the water and the undulating Okanagan Valley at Lake Okanagan Resort. Unlike many of the nearby Kelowna hotels and condos that offer accommodations but nothing more, this Okanagan Lake destination takes its Napa of the North location to the next level.

No, Lake Okanagan Resort doesn’t plan your schedule for the day. But we hardly think that’s necessary considering it’s your vacation and you should be able to choose if you want to spend your morning in the cool blue lake waters bouncing from trampoline to trampoline in the floating waterpark or spinning your wheels over the single-track mountain bike paths meandering up and over the resort’s rolling terrain. And we know you wouldn’t want to miss the fascinating historical walk through 300 acres of mountainside parkland on an interpretive trail that includes the Northwest Trading Company Fur Brigade Trail. But that’s up to you! If you’re dying to get to downtown Kelowna and check out Prospera Place and all the other good-time attractions, you’re only 20 minutes away. But you’re going to want to hurry back because the trail horses at the onsite stables aren’t going to wait forever to go swimming in the lake with you!
