Hogan built the inn as present for his daughter Dorothy Adair Hogan upon her marriage to John W. Guider, a lawyer at Hogan & Hartson and founder of WMTW television. Adair has hosted many famous guests over the years including presidential candidates, supreme court justices, and actors, and remained a private residence until 1991.
