Ascension Bay is outstanding for its diversity of flats game fish. Although bonefish are the most abundant species, there is also and impressive population of permit in these waters. Tarpon also inhabit the Bay with numbers increasing in May and June. This is one of the few places in the world where you can stalk bonefish and permit on the same flat while either wading or fishing from a boat! Fishermen go out each morning in 23 foot fiberglass pongas especially designed to be equally adept in rough seas or three inches of water. The local Mayan guides, Fransicco and Benito, employed by the lodge are capable flats fishermen trained by Jan Isley.
