Basin Harbor Club: Fitness and Fun Combine on Lake Champlain

Recently ranked the nation’s second healthiest state by the United Health Foundation, Vermont offers plenty of opportunities for active adventurers. Whether you’re hiking through the Green Mountains, exploring the sparkling waters of Lake Champlain, or sampling the organic food offerings, you’ll have fun while staying fit.

Basin Harbor Club is your headquarters for a healthy vacation. Situated on the shores of Lake Champlain, health and well-being come first here. Families and friends come together at this playground for all ages, which features an array of activities, fresh and nutritious food, and a world of relaxation.

Founded as a working farm in the 1800s, Basin Harbor Club has evolved into a full-service resort. Whether you want to explore the tree-lined property, embark on a Lake Champlain aquatic adventure, or just soak in the quiet serenity of the undulating waters, you’ll find an unforgettable natural experience. This breathtaking setting inspires good health through recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

“What I love most about Basin Harbor is that every day is an opportunity for an adventure, big or small,” Director of Resort Marketing Jen Wyman said. “This place on the lake has so many different facets, from bald eagle and osprey spotting on a lake cruise to finding fossils in the local stonework to discovering the 45-plus varieties of trees on the property. Health and well-being is so much more than exercising and being active. It's appreciating your environment, breathing the air, and enjoying the sense of place.”

Nowhere is this “sense of place” more prevalent than on Lake Champlain. Featuring more than 600 miles of scenic shoreline, this beautiful body of water is the nation’s sixth largest lake. Explore the shores on a kayak, paddleboat, canoe, or sailboat. Reel in the sunfish or try waterskiing the waves. Kids can bounce around on the floating water trampoline while parents catch a tan on the beach. Plunge into the past on an ROV tour, a remote-operated vehicle with mounted camera that descends into the shipwrecks of Lake Champlain.

Autumn is the perfect time to visit, as the children are enjoying the daily supervised camp while golfers tee it up on the onsite, 18-hole championship course. Bikers pedal through the vibrant fall foliage on long, flat stretches of country roads. The many local breweries, museums, vineyards, and antique centers offer tempting off-property treks.

After an action-packed day, recharge your sense of adventure with local, fresh, and nutritious dining options. The culinary team is sure to please every palate, as they design menus to reflect time-honored favorites as well as bold, contemporary flavors. Vermont’s bountiful harvest serves as the theme with farm-to-table menus reflecting the changing New England seasons. The fresh ingredients of local producers are on full display.

“When Basin Harbor Club was founded in 1886, vegetables, fruits, and animals were all raised right here and used to feed hungry guests,” fourth generation host Pennie Beach said. “It was farm-to-table before anyone thought up the trendy phrase, and it was how everyone who lived in the country ate.Today, there are over 200 food producers of all types - vegetables, fruits, dairy, honey, and farm-raised animals - in Addison County, where we are located.”

Offering a surplus of outdoor adventures, onsite activities, and fresh food, Basin Harbor Club combines fitness and fun.
