Indian Summer in the north woods is a favorite time of year for nature enthusiasts.
The aspen leaves turn a brilliant gold, the birch turn bright yellow. The maples add a splash of red, and mixed between are the deep greens of the pines, spruce and balsam.
The air has turned cooler, but the sun is warm. The nights are crisp. The bugs are almost non-existent. It's the perfect season for hiking, especially when you add in the stunning beauty of the autumn forest.
Naturalists at Gunflint Lodge will guide you on a variety of treks out into the woods to their favorite color spots each day. Some of the hikes feature scenic overlooks, while others go through thick cedar swamps or up to the aspen highlands.
They'll be able to point out the best places for photos…and you may even be fortunate enough to spot a local moose, fox or bear.
Some of your treks will be on the short and easy side. One or two a bit longer. They'll send along a packed lunches for you too.
In-between hikes you're welcome to take a canoe out onto the lake. Throw out a line for a walleye or northern, or just enjoy a relaxing paddle.
A delicious dinner in the Lodge will cap off your full day of outdoor activity (included in your stay). Then you can cozy up to your cabin's fireplace for the evening with a good book, good conversation or a game.
