This summer, Darien Lake Resort in Western New York, welcomes international tightrope celebrity and daredevil Nik Wallenda to campus for a season-long series of daring highwire acts, meet and greets, and so much more. The historic family destination has recently added $2 Million in accommodations upgrades to go along with the amusement park and 10 Acre waterpark on the property grounds. ResortsandLodges.com spoke with Amber Ciesiulka, PR & Events Supervisor for Darien Lake Resort about what families can expect on their vacation this summer. Trust us; you don’t want to miss this one!
RAL: Give me a backdrop of Darien Lake…Where am I taking my Family this Summer?
AC: Darien Lake Theme Park and Resort has actually been around for a little over 50 years now. Our focus here is always on our guests, so we’ve invested a lot time and funds into providing great entertainment value and accommodations options. In fact, we have invested more than $2 Million in accommodations upgrades alone in the past few years. We really have something to suit every family’s needs. We’ve added 40 brand new RV units this year, seven deluxe three-bedroom cabins, five new two-bedroom cabins, as well as six brand new guest houses that can accommodate up to 10 guests. This is in addition to the 57 lakeside cabins, a remodeled 160 room lodge and 20 “glamp sites” (short for glamorous camping), as well as a traditional camping area, all set up for you when you arrive. So we really have something for everybody here. All of our accommodations options are just steps away from unlimited access to our 10 acre water park and the 45 rides and attractions in our amusement park.

RAL: Who does Darien Lake Cater to?
AC: We cater largely to the family demographic. We have families that have been coming here for generations. We also see large travel groups of friends and extended family come to Darien Lake. So while it is primarily a family destination, we really do have something for everybody.
RAL: Talk to me about Nik Wallenda…What is happening with Nik?
AC: Nik is an international high wire sensation, in addition to an acrobat, aerialist and daredevil. He holds eight Guinness World Records, and is best known for his tightrope walk across Niagara Falls in 2012. Having Nik at Darien Lake really ups the level of entertainment that our guests get when they come here. After Nik walked across Niagara Falls, the Western New York community adopted him as our own so everyone is really excited that he will be performing all season at the park.
RAL: What is Nik’s Schedule for the Summer? I understand he is staying at Darien Lake for the whole season…
AC: Nik will be here on June 23rd, and he will have a 10-week run. He will be doing 120, one hour shows, so two shows per day (black on Mondays). Every show will include not only Nik but also the Wallenda family entertainers – his wife, cousins, and other world class aerialists and daredevils.
RAL: What do you think Nik will add to the atmosphere at the resort?
AC: The level of entertainment that Nik brings is unprecedented. Not only will he have his two daily shows, but the Wallenda family will have three tightrope academy classes every day, except Tuesdays. They will also be doing meet and greets and special pop-up performances all around the park. It’s going to bring Nik up-close and personal with our guests, which is something we are excited to share with them.
RAL: What makes this so unique?
AC: This summer we are focusing on enhancing the guest experience. Our theme for the 2014 season is “Happiness Guaranteed.” We have some great guarantees in place to ensure that when our guests leave the park, they’ll be doing so with a smile on their face. Having Nik perform here really enhances that experience and gives our guests a more exciting, unique experience than ever before.
