Songs, Stories, and Thousands of Music Lovers in Ponte Vedra

Ponte Vedra, Florida, is known in most golf circles as the home of TPC Sawgrass, but this coastal destination is also home to luxurious spas, pristine beaches, and unique community festivals. Whether you're looking for a variety of wildlife at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas Estuarine Research Reserve or hunting for shark teeth at Mickler’s Beachfront Park, Ponte Vedra is the ideal spot for a warm weather getaway.

The Roscolusa Songwriters Festival is a unique musical showcase that takes singers and songwriters from Nashville and brings them to Ponte Vedra for a day of performance and storytelling. It will be held April 22 at the Nocatee event field, and organizers expect roughly 6,000 attendees. Many of the singer/songwriter's wrote hit songs for major acts like Rascal Flatts and Faith Hill and will be performing the songs and explaining the stories behind the music. A selection of popular Jacksonville food trucks will also be on hand serving a variety of meals, beverages, and snacks. The event donates a portion of its proceeds to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund which provides to families with children fighting cancer. We got the opportunity to interview Kim Paige, a representative for the event, to learn more about this unique music experience.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

KP: Roscolusa 2017 will be our 6th annual event. We started Roscolusa as a backyard concert in 2012 with around 150 people in attendance and moved to Nocatee’s event field in 2013. That first year at Nocatee we had around 2,000 people in attendance, and last year we had just under 6,000 people.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract? Children? Families? Couples?

KP: Our event attracts all ages. We have young families with children, teenagers, groups of friends, and couples of all ages enjoying a date night together. This year we are even allowing coolers in for $25, so you can bring your snacks and drinks!

RAL: What makes this event unique?

KP: Our mission is to bring the living room atmosphere outdoors for an intimate night of music where you not only get to hear hit songs performed by the original songwriters themselves, but you also get to listen to the stories behind the songs.

RAL: Take me through the activities of a day at the event.

KP: This year we will have a kid zone featuring inflatable obstacle courses, rock walls, tons of arts and crafts, and inflatable slides!

RAL: Will there be any guest appearances?

KP: Hit songwriters from Nashville who have written songs like, “What Hurt’s The Most” and “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts, “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s” by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, “I Love This Life” by Lo Cash, “Something Like That” aka the “BBQ Stain Song” by Tim McGraw, “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line, and so many more!

RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?

KP: We will have lots of Jacksonville Finest food trucks and food vendors like Bono’s BBQ and Crazy Good Kettle Corn.

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

KP: The Sawgrass Marriott is a top choice for travelers.

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

KP: Roscolusians love Roscolusa because they get to hear the stories behind some of their favorite songs that you would not get to hear at a regular concert. Our favorite part of Roscolusa is the opportunity to donate to a charity. This year we will donate a portion of our proceeds to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund that helps local families tackle childhood cancer.

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

KP: Our event is a one-night event, but it brings a lot of added business to our area, and most importantly it's a fun night for businesses and employees to join the festivities.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

KP: Roscolusa is free and open to the public for anyone to enjoy. You must register for your free general admission ticket at roscolusa.com/tickets. Cooler passes may also be purchased here in advance for $25, and VIP are available for $100 as well. VIP tickets include premier parking, seating, private stage viewing area, complimentary food catered by Pastiche Catering, two free drink tickets, private bar, private air-conditioned facilities, and an artist meet-and-greet!
