Celebrating the Delicious Vintages of the Niagara Wine Trail

Almost destroyed during the War of 1812, Lewiston has become a great Western New York destination complete with community events, historical sites, and stunning views of the Niagara River. The city is a must for food lovers, and some great local establishments include Silo and Carmelo's Restaurants. Make a note to go on one of the Whirlpool Jetboat Tours of the Niagara River which take you through the white water rapids and whirlpools on a large jetboat.

The Niagara USA Wine Festival has been showcasing the top wines and foods in the region for the past nine years, and it will take place July 29-30, at Academy Park in Downtown Lewiston. Attendees will get the opportunity to sample and purchase wines from 17 wineries located on the world famous Niagara Wine Trail. Attendees will also have the chance to sample food from great local food trucks and restaurants, and seminars will be available to teach patrons about wine tasting, production, and pairing. Everyone should make sure to stop by the marketplace which will feature everything from fresh farm produce to unique collectibles. We got the opportunity to interview Media Director, Elizabeth Rose Maute, to learn more about this wine themed extravaganza.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

ERM: This will be our 9th year.

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw?

ERM: We will draw over a thousand people (wine drinkers and their family/friends) over two days.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract?

ERM: The event draws couples of all ages. It's a fun day out for friends young and old, and it's family friendly!

RAL: What makes this event unique?

ERM: There are no other events that bring all of the wineries along our wine trail together during the summer for tastings and wine sales.

RAL: Take me through the activities of a day at the event.

ERM: As a tasting attendee, you are free to roam around the festival sampling wine at the wineries and shopping at our local vendors and farmers market.

RAL: Will there be any guest appearances?

ERM: There will be free talks and lectures from local winemakers and experts in the fields of winemaking and other craft beverages.

RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?

ERM: Food trucks will be on hand for all participants to purchase snacks and lunch or dinner.

RAL: Tell me about the overall atmosphere.

ERM: The environment is relaxed, easy-going, and fun! Great local bands will perform throughout the day, in between the talks/lectures.

RAL: Our travelers seek out unique and boutique accommodations, where can they find these in your area?

ERM: Lewiston and Niagara Falls have several options for local accommodations and Bed & Breakfasts, as well as neighboring cities and towns in Niagara County. We suggest looking on our website for businesses we partner with, and on the Niagara USA Tourism website for even more ideas.

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

ERM: It has become a summertime tradition in Lewiston to take a walk to the festival and enjoy all the local wine and food!

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

ERM: Yes, event attendees will typically stay into the evening either day for dinner in the Village of Lewiston, or go shopping during the afternoon.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

ERM: The event is an excellent way to spend an afternoon in Niagara. To make it a memorable trip we suggest visitors make time to visit the Niagara Gorge or the world-famous Niagara Falls. There are several historical and fun places to visit nearby, check them out here.
