Banff
Banff, Alberta, Canada is simply one of the most beautiful regions on earth, with the town of Banff located inside of Banff National Park. These Canadian Rocky Mountain peaks once challenged the pioneers - real-life local legends like Anthony Hendy, Major “Hells Bells” Rogers and Cornelius Van Horn. Once known to railroad men as Sliding 29, Banff was born from hunting, trapping and the Canadian Pacific Railroad. Now it beckons you and your family to an adventure-filled Banff vacation.

Some of the most famous storybook characters and real life heroes came from humble beginnings. Stay Here
The spectacular lodges of Banff begin with the legendary Fairmont Banff Springs, the “castle in the Rockies” which opened in 1888. This level of luxury has proven invaluable to lodging in Banff, where development is limited and the singular hotels, lodges and resorts have improved from within over time instead of expanding on the outside. Many of these mountain-style accommodations line the main street in Banff, and you can find premium condominium lodging on nearby Tunnel Mountain.

Play Here
Banff is known for downhill skiing – this is the home of Sunshine Village, the highest-elevation resort in Canada; Mt. Norquay, the original family ski resort opened in 1926; and Lake Louise Ski Area, Canada’s largest single ski resort. Yet the region’s adventurous history is still evident here within the 6,641-sq.-km. Banff National Park. Take a Bow River canoe trip, almost certain to feature Canadian wildlife, or witness the Bow River Valley at your feet from the Hoodoo Lookout. Visit the natural mineral springs just south of town; or, to the north, visit the old town of Bankhead, now under the waters of Lake Minnewanka, on a SCUBA diving excursion.

Dine Here
Banff dining tends to be a mountain-style experience – you might find chandeliers made from elk horns, or hand-hewn logs and beams taken long ago from the local forests. Also, you might discover wonderful beef – Alberta beef is exemplary for the environmentally-conscious practices in which it is raised, and the basis for many fine dining experiences here. Consider celebrating the traditional Scottish heritage of Banff at Fairmont Banff Springs. The Banffshire Club, bearing the moniker of the Scottish town for which Banff is named, will regale you with an extensive wine cellar and (what else?) excellent single malt scotch.
