5 . Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Any park that greets you by saying “welcome mortals” has just got to be cool. And, bonus, Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park is big, too: with 37 slides, six roller coasters and eight go-kart tracks on 156 acres, it’s the largest water and theme park in Wisconsin Dells.

Thanks to the Parthenon Indoor Theme Park and The Bay Indoor Waterpark, mortals can even come here year round. Wet or dry, there are plenty of indoor features to keep you jostled, weightless and/or dizzy, but when the sun comes out the fun expands. The River Troy (“the world’s fastest river”) takes you from the inside out, and Poseidon’s Rage (one of the world's largest surf pools) hurls nine-foot waves at you. This doesn’t include Hades, the extreme wooden roller coaster with the 140-foot, 65-degree drop into the world’s longest underground tunnel, or the six story, multi-towered underwater go-kart track. There is much more, of course, but mere mortals must take a break from all the excitement now and then. Which is why there are several dining spots here, too, many with the telltale Greek theme: Kaffe’ Opa, The Greek Tycoon and My Big Fat Greek Pizza Joint among them.

Dates and Times

On weekends, the Bay is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the Parthenon is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, the Bay is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Parthenon is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays the Bay is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the Parthenon opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m.

The renovated Klondike Kavern now features Hurricane, the Dells’ tallest indoor thrill ride. The Wild West park features the Black Hole, a 48-foot drop into a dark tunnel. There’s even an indoor waterpark here with a see-through roof that lets you tan year-round. We can’t forget about fun out of the water, either. Wilderness Resort now offers two 3D, black light miniature golf courses at Wild Adventure Park; and for serious (or not so serious) golfers, there’s the 18-hole championship Wild Rock golf course, or the nine-hole Woods Family Course. Or, visit the 15,000-sq.-ft. Northern Lights arcade, and the four-story, 30,000-sq.-ft. Timberland Play Park!
