#1 Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain

If we had been wearing a mood ring when we stepped foot on our No. 1 Phoenix pick, we guarantee it would have turned a serene blue – matching the cyan waters of the infinity pool and cloudless, robin’s egg sky. Suffice to say, we find the name Sanctuary befitting!

With the copper-colored Camelback Mountain in the background, Sanctuary finds itself amidst 53 acres of Arizona desert. Limestone casitas built into the rugged terrain may appear rustic, but inside is a vibrant world of feng shui. While we can’t claim Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain studied astrology to optimize energy flow, it’s difficult to imagine the Spa Casita Suites being built without a guiding, celestial hand. Lava rock fireplaces, walk-in closets and views from the patio are mesmerizing, but it’s the outdoor soaking tubs beneath a blanket of stars that took our breath away.

We’re not sure a resort could properly call itself a sanctuary if it didn’t have a spa. Luckily, our No. 1 resort is a step ahead of us with the innovative Sanctuary Spa. Asian-inspired treatments like the lotus flower aquatic reflexology massage release blocked energy with ancient techniques and modern luxury, such as the heated Watsu pool.
