Top 10 Lake Geneva Resorts Overview

We’ve heard the scoffs and stereotypes. You ask how could there be one luxury resort in the land of Cheeseheads, much less 10. Put images of yellow and green painted, dairy wedge-wearing fans from your mind and make room for the serene waters of Lake Geneva. This Southeast Wisconsin region boasts not only the 5,500-acre lake, but a vast selection of resorts that are destinations in and of themselves. Of course, our mission was to compile these and present them in the form of our list of Top 10 Lake Geneva Resorts. So, while Lake Geneva comes between Madison and Milwaukee, its class and outdoor excursions set it apart in a sophisticated league of its own.

Grand Geneva Resort - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Grand Geneva Resort lives up to its name with its newly-designed rooms. Appointed with pumpkin-hued blankets, nut brown leather chairs and contrasting pearl white mantles and ebony fireplaces, Grand Geneva rooms and suites set the tone for an elegant Wisconsin Lake Country escape. Start the morning off on the right foot with a brisk White River nature walk. If you have your tikes in tow, suit them up and prepare for 35-ft. high waterslides, a lazy river, two interactive splash pools and three whirlpool spas at Moose Mountain Falls Waterpark. Convince your sweetie – which shouldn’t be too difficult – to join you for a Table for Two couples stress-relieving massage at Grand Geneva’s WELL Spa. Then, wind down the day at an actual table for two with a glass of fine wine and a plate of cocoa mousse at the onsite contemporary Italian Ristoranté Brissago.

Geneva Ridge Resort & Geneva National Golf Course - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Geneva Ridge Resort & Geneva National Golf Course puts you at the center of Lake Geneva water- and land-based activities. Sample the shopping from antique and boutique to chic jewelry and pottery galleries. Or, give into those big baby blues – the waters of Lake Geneva, that is – on a boat cruise! Or, gather the girls for an afternoon at The Spa at Geneva Ridge. Compose your thoughts in a skin-enriching Roman Sea Salt Bath with the scents of tangerine and lavender enveloping your senses. If you don’t feel absolutely serene, we’re fairly certain that soothing, warm volcanic rocks paired with a therapeutic massage ought to do the trick. We don’t blame you for wanting to return to your earth-toned, mission-style Geneva Ridge room, but first take a little detour to the Thirsty Heron for a juicy poolside burger and cold beer. If you’re the fruity type, slip into evening attire and visit the Lakeview Lounge to sip their cocktail of the month!

The Abbey Resort and Spa - Fontana, Wisconsin

This is not to say The Abbey Resort and Spa is without a bustle of its own. But every hurried movement here is you heading towards the next fun activity. The peace that comes from the azure Caribbean-like waters is also a gateway to the world of Lake Geneva aquatic recreation. If that expansive blue is too much to swallow, the same crystal clear water is replicated indoors in the spa’s atrium pool. Yes, we said spa. AVANI Spa lays claim to 35,000 sq. ft. aimed to bring you to contentment. There is a reason, however, that the refreshing Body Coffee Wrap only lasts 50 minutes. To make way for more Abbey Resort fun! Challenge your kids to a game or two in the Abbey Arcade or check out Board Game Bonanza in Solarium Way. Traveling without tots? Then Steamers is the leather-lined lounge for your adult beverages and conversation.

Timber Ridge Lodge and Waterpark - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Timber Ridge Lodge adds the “and Waterpark” to their name for good reason. An indoor/outdoor 50,000-sq.-ft. aquatic playground for young and old would be a pretty big part to overlook. Parents will question whether or not there’s a fraction of dolphin in their child when kids splash along a log path or let out a whoop as they descend the heights via water slide. And kids in turn will wonder why parents are content to go around again and again on the lazy river. Whatever the reason, we found that all ages dove – err, fell head over heels for Timber Ridge’s Moose Mountain Falls. When not donning wetsuits, grab some grub at Smokey’s Bar-B-Que House. If kids don’t want saucy home-style ribs or pulled pork, the Hungry Moose Court comes to the rescue to please your picky eaters.

Bella Vista Suites - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

We’ve already established that the Lake Geneva landscape is something to be inspired by, but the view keeps getting sweeter the further you explore Bella Vista Suites. While we definitely don’t mind seeing Seminary Park out of an appropriately named Park View Suite window, we just can’t get over the interior lay of the land in the Penthouse Suite. Cream walls envelop elegant furnishings, a fireplace and a two-person Jacuzzi tub, along with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. But even Bella Vista admits that to truly appreciate this unique region, you have to use your sea legs. The Lake Geneva Cruise Line makes this more than enjoyable with a champagne brunch on Sunday or a stompin’ good time with the Dixieland Dinner Cruise.

Inns of Geneva National - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

We’re not claiming to be bent-grass green experts, but we trust that Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player knew what they were doing when they designed the three golf courses that have given Geneva National its prestigious reputation. Inns of Geneva National carries on this legend with 36 rooms stocked with all the creature comforts. Instead of stacking all 36 rooms into one high-rise, Inns of Geneva National placed six rooms in six inns. This means that Inns of Geneva National gives you the attention and privacy of an intimate B and B but the amenities of a top notch hotel. After conquering bunkers and hazards, come back to your Inns room and cook dinner on your private veranda with a gas grill. Or, remember that birdie while relaxing in your whirlpool tub.

The Geneva Inn - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

With our No. 7 pick’s lakeside locale, Geneva Inn easily becomes an island of opulence surrounded by natural beauty. Geneva Inn is no country bumpkin, however. You’ll quickly discover this for yourself when you step from the warm waters of your bath in an oversized vintage tub and into a plush bathrobe. Or when you indulge in a Wine Dinner comprised of five gourmet courses paired with exquisite wines. While staring out at Lake Geneva and Geneva Inn’s private marina from your balcony is breathtaking, the 21-mile lake path right outside the resort’s door is beckoning you to explore by foot or bike. Or, take the courtesy shuttle into town and explore numerous boutiques and galleries. No matter where you wander, the bedtime chocolates and morning breakfast buffet will bring you back.

Mill Creek Hotel - Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Mill Creek Hotel is the picky traveler’s reprieve. Instead of pacing back and forth trying to sort out which amenities you’d like to have and which you can live without, Mill Creek conveniently provides gas fireplaces, a private covered balcony, fully-equipped kitchen, two-person whirlpool tub, spa showerheads and fluffy bathrobes in each suite. The only truly difficult decision you have to make is which view you want to wake up to each morning and fall asleep to at night. The picturesque Mill Creek and vibrant colors of the Donian Nature Preserve is the most popular vista, although we were quite satisfied with looking out over historic downtown Lake Geneva. Your great expectations of Mill Creek will experience great return. It’s tough to beat a nature preserve address that is also steps from downtown Lake Geneva’s festivals, shops and fine dining.
