Our No. 5 spot’s name gave us pause. We wondered what it could be that was being divided. Rival gangs of snowboarders and cross country skiers? The Breckenridge winter regulars vs. the summer regulars? Then finally, we understood – the bad times are divided from the good!

In reality, the Great Divide Lodge is named in honor of the Continental Divide, which passes through Colorado itself. But after experiencing a Colorado getaway at this Breckenridge resort, we were sure they must’ve done something to chase away the stress and inconvenience that inevitably follows innocent vacationers. Yet, all we were left with was the Great Divide’s grand scale rooms and care-free amenities, like outdoor hot tubs on a stone terrace, an indoor swimming pool awash in tropical ambiance and a sports shop with equipment rental.

We don’t usually get excited about an “o’clock” – unless of course it is 5 o’clock on a Friday – but our No. 7 pick had us eagerly anticipating 4 o’clock. We are speaking of the Four O’Clock Ski Run, which our No. 7 resort has a convenient slope-side location to, of course!
