We’ve found a destination that’s destined to impress on your Vancouver Island vacation. Though the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa is actually set on the island’s eastern shore, we found directional influences of another kind inside this British Columbia luxury spa retreat.

Whether it be gourmet dining or au naturale spa treatments that showcase Vancouver Island’s natural wonders, West Coast influences abound at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort. Outstanding West Coast cuisine and panoramic views of Gartley Bay are on the menu inside Kingfisher Oceanside’s elegant dining room. The Kingfisher spa menu includes minerals from the Brittany Coast, seaweed plucked from coastal waters and natural sea salts culled from nearby Vancouver Island beaches. And throughout your Kingfisher stay, you’ll be treated to warm welcomes and traditional West Coast hospitality. You could settle for just one, but we think a true Vancouver Island luxury vacation means never having to choose! Kingfisher Oceanside Resort must have had the same thought in mind when it came out with its Sleep, Savour and Spa package that pairs one restful night’s sleep in a luxurious Vancouver Island hotel suite with a delicious breakfast and an invigorating visit to the spa’s exclusive Pacific Mist Hydropath.

Highlights

The Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa is comprised of 64 lodge-style ocean view rooms and beachfront suites situated on Gartley Bay in Vancouver Island’s Comox Valley.

Getting there

The Kingfisher is a one hour drive north of Nanaimo, or eight kilometers south of Courtenay, which is midway up the east coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. It is also only a 2 ½ -hour drive north of Victoria on the Island Highway 19, or a 3-hour drive from Vancouver, which includes a 1 ½-hour scenic BC Ferries ride from Horseshoe Bay.

Fun facts

Truly unique to North America, the Pacific Mist Hydropath® offers the many benefits of hydrotherapy including remineralization, detoxification and relaxation in a setting that evokes the Island's natural elements.

Aboriginal ancestors once lived, hunted and fished the same land and waters that surround the legendary Quadra Island lodge in our No. 11 spot. While its traditional artworks are a sight to behold, we think you’ll really appreciate Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge’s ability to offer unequaled luxury on your Vancouver Island vacation!

At Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge, the same scenery that greeted the Aborigines welcomes you to this Vancouver Island lodge. Outside, sacred bald eagles soar in clear blue skies, killer whales reign over Pacific Ocean waters and swirling tides leave their footprint on the Vancouver Island sands. And Discovery Passage’s breathtaking vistas are always in sight, even when sunk into the hot tub’s soothing depths. But inside, you’ll find Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge’s nod to modern-day comforts. Beachfront cottages and cozy Vancouver Island vacation homes bathe you in luxury with jetted tubs, wraparound decks and floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the views. Just minutes from the lodge, Aboriginal Journeys specializes in awe-inspiring adventures into Quadra Island’s most scenic terrain; some are even guided by an elder from the island’s We-Wai-Kai First Nation! With knowledgeable locals at the helm of these Vancouver Island excursions, you’re in for a behind-the-scenes tour of playful porpoises, majestic grizzlies and stunning coastal sea creatures.

Highlights

Continue your discovery of the colorful and extraordinary history of the Kwagiulth People at the Kwagiulth Museum in Cape Mudge Village, a short drive or brisk walk from the Lodge.

Getting there

The lodge is located on Quadra Island, a 10-minute ferry ride from downtown Campbell River, Vancouver Island. Campbell River is serviced by Air Canada, Pacific Coastal Airlines and Central Mountain Air, with several flights daily from either terminals arriving at Vancouver International Airport. Comox airport, only 50 minutes south of Campbell River, is the North Island destination for West Jet with regular direct flights from Calgary, Edmonton and beyond.

From arched ceilings in its cedar cottages to Tofino sunsets that paint their fuchsia hues across the Pacific Ocean horizon, Ocean Village Beach Resort is a sight to behold on your Vancouver Island vacation!

Nothing can compare to the breathtaking natural beauty of Tofino, BC, where Ocean Village Beach Resort gives you the luxury of choosing from a wide range of nearby Vancouver Island adventures. Cruise the waters around Barkley Sound for sea lions, bears, eagles and three types of native whales: the Orca, grey and humpback. The island’s forests, mountains and ocean waters are all impressive, but nothing is more humbling than witnessing these gentle giants surface mere inches from where your boat or kayak bobs. Overlooking the sandy shores of MacKenzie Beach, Ocean Village Beach Resort’s gothic-arched cedar cottages are only 60 ft. from the Pacific Ocean’s waters. If the idea of swimming in Orca-inhabited waters is more terrifying than thrilling, this Vancouver Island luxury resort also houses a spacious saltwater pool and soothing hot tub to dip into at the end of each day.

Highlights

So you can truly get away from it all on your Vancouver Island vacation, Ocean Village Beach Resort has no TVs, phones or radios in the rooms.

Getting there

If you are driving from Victoria, head north on Highway 1 and follow the signs to Nanaimo. Continue north on Highway 19 just outside of Nanaimo and just before Parksville, turn onto the Pacific Rim Highway (Highway 4), and follow the signs to Port Alberni. Keep right and continue to follow Highway 4 through Port Alberni, heading west. At the Tofino-Ucluelet junction, turn right, enjoy the scenery and proceed to Ocean Village Beach Resort.

Fun facts

Archipelago tours aboard the Raincoast Maiden, a luxurious 53-ft. yacht, lead you on a scenic route through the Broken Group Islands and include a gourmet lunch featuring fresh salmon, fruit and more!

If you asked our No. 5 spot what its name means, it might tell you that, true to its name, the Cabins at Terrace Beach is one part viewing platform and two parts sand-and-pebble studded Vancouver Island seashore. We don’t care what you call them; we just hope you make it the final destination on your Vancouver Island luxury vacation!

To some, luxury can only mean high-class amenities, high-end accommodations and an equally elevated price tag. But at this particular Vancouver Island resort, uncluttered cabins, an unhurried lifestyle and unobstructed views of the Ucluelet waterfront blend for tranquility, luxury and peace of mind on the stunning Vancouver Island shore. Here, there’s always time to skip the smooth stones that line the Terrace Beach sands, embark on an archipelago nature cruise or search for the colorful starfish and other sea critters that lurk in the tiny pools revealed by low tide. Exposed beams, leather chairs and granite counters are just a few upscale touches featured inside Terrace Beach’s rustic chic cabins. A select few feature a timbered catwalk that leads to a lofted whirlpool tub, filled to the brim with bubbles and bordered by towels twirled into elegant swan shapes. And on the Wild Pacific Trail that serves as this Vancouver Island resort’s backyard, wooden walkways unfold into the Ucluelet wilderness just beyond the resort’s borders.

Highlights

The site of The Cabins at Terrace Beach sits near Amphitrite Point, the northern headland of the Barkley Sound and Broken Group Islands and is found not far from Tofino.

Fun facts

Terrace Beach is one of the most bio-diverse beaches on the west coast at low tide. The Cabins at Terrace Beach ask that you leave all living creatures - including starfish, anemones, crabs and plants – exactly the way you encountered them.
