Bliss is defined as “supreme happiness.” But this is only the first part of the definition. The second part consists of “a Texas B and B, a historic working ranch and quintessential Cat Springs lodging, all in one place.” The full word that renders such a thorough definition is Blisswood.
Our No. 1 spot, Blisswood Bed and Breakfast at Lehmann Legacy Ranch, sports classic Texas country charm and a magical breath of fresh air. The most enchanting centerpiece is the island-isolated gazebo, reachable by a white arch foot bridge, on the aptly named Enchanted Lake. Cabins with unique furnishings and heritage play host to your serene southern getaway. Stay in the Writer’s Cabin (our personal favorite, of course) – a single room cabin with a desk the Confederate Army carried with them on their maneuvers. Or, relax on the spacious porch or in the private pool at the Dog Trot House, so named because dogs used to trot in the breezeway. The surrounding scenery only increases in beauty as you explore the seven-circuit labyrinth in the Mystical Forest by mountain bike, cross meadows and creeks on horseback or take a leisurely hike and spot bison, deer, alpaca, camels, peacocks and more!
Propose on one knee or hold your wedding in the idyllic Enchanted Lake gazebo! It was designed to cater to romance - in fact, the gazebo was supposedly constructed for the wedding of a previous ranch owner’s daughter.
Stay at Blisswood and attend the Via Colori Street Painting Festival held in Cat Springs or visit the Stephen F. Austin and Washington-on-the-Brazos State Parks.

We all know that on vacation we may experience long hours in the car, sunburns and unwanted critters. But there’s certainly nothing pesky about our No. 4 pick, the Ant Street Inn in downtown Brenham!
Located in the Historic Ant Street District, Ant Street Inn practices that true Deep South hospitality that makes the inn your home away from home. Experience the peace and quiet of the countryside lounging in a rocking chair on the inn’s veranda, which overlooks the beautifully landscaped courtyard. At the same time, enjoy the convenient proximity to all of Brenham’s attractions, such as the Pleasant Hill Winery, George Bush Presidential Library and the Jersey Barnyard, a dairy farm that is home to Belle, the Blue Bell Creamery cow. But the quandary for us wasn’t so much what to do in Brenham as it was which room of Ant Street Inn to stay in. We couldn’t decide between the romantic Charleston, with its soft rose hues and rosewood bed; the New Orleans, with a draped and canopied bed and walls decorated with art from New Orleans; or the Memphis, with an original 100-year-old freight elevator in the center of the brick-walled room.
Celebrate one more year of becoming wiser at Ant Street Inn with their Birthday Package! Have a birthday cake with candles and a bouquet of flowers waiting for you in your room.
From Navasota, go southwest on Hwy. 105 and follow Business 105 to the courthouse. Pass the courthouse and turn left at the next corner, which is Park Street. Go two blocks to Commerce and you will see Ant Street Inn.

Our No. 3 B and B had us turned around a bit. We couldn’t decide, with the draping silky smooth curtains, elaborately carved headboards and Victorian-era portraits in gold frames if this was a Texas B and B or a French boutique luxury hotel.
What we did find was that The Sanford House Inn and Spa is a unique blend of intimate B and B charm and tasteful luxury. The wraparound porch encircles the stately Sanford House and provides cool shade for those Southern scorcher afternoons. Or, if you’re a sun lover, the outdoor pool in the Grand Courtyard is the modern amenity worth dipping into. And though your room may be appointed with marble bathrooms, a Jacuzzi or fireplace, it still retains that secluded privacy and cozy at-home atmosphere you’d expect from a bed and breakfast. We’re sure this is the reason Sanford House was named the Official Best of Texas Romantic Getaways in 2009.
The Grand Courtyard has a raised pavilion, gazebo, colorful flowers and shade trees that are ideal for a Texas wedding, wedding reception, cocktail party and more!
Visit the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Six Flags over Texas and Ameriquest Field, home of the Texas Rangers, all conveniently close to Arlington’s Sanford House Inn and Spa.

There has never been a better reason to take off work during the week than staying at our No. 2 spot, Inn on Lake Granbury Bed and Breakfast. Of course, weekends are worth it as well, but we’re going to let you in on a few weekday special touches that made us fall head over cowboy boot heels!
At the inn, enjoy the leisure and luxury of a lakefront vacation home with the attention to detail a traditional B and B lends. Walk down to the bluffs or swing beneath the oak trees on the shores of Lake Granbury. Or, if you want to dip into another Texan body of water, try the Inn’s oasis-like pool with a waterfall. And when you stay overnight on Monday, the Inn serves you dinner – but the next night is something even better. On every third Tuesday of the month you can take a cooking class given by a gourmet chef from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area! Don’t forget the rooms! All are uniquely decorated and themed with rich, full color palettes from the floor up. Rest in front of your stone fireplace, in your jetted tub or on your balcony with a lake view.
Those fond of club swinging will be overjoyed to hear that there are two Texas golf courses near the Inn on Granbury Lake; one is a championship course given four-stars by Golf Digest and the other has Scottish bries and water hazards to test your skills.

Beyond the scrumptious breakfast, this restored 1925 prairie-style home is a Texas Recorded Historical Landmark and your elegant two-acre Southern sanctuary. Follow the red-bricked path through winding vibrant flower gardens and classic trickling fountains to find a fire pit, a hot tub and a full-outdoor kitchen with a big screen TV. Choose a relaxing vacation for two, or one, in the Garden Room, adjacent to the courtyard and shade gardens. Or, reside in the Library Room, the original house library with ash block paneling, bookshelves and navy, burgundy and forest green accents. You open the doors and see red and gold brocaded drapes, barely twist furnishings made of rich warm-colored wood and a bright red bagpipe on the wall with a kilt and sporran nearby. Though the last three items are indeed from Scotland, your room is actually in Muenster, Texas!
Elm Creek Manor Bed and Breakfast Luxury Spa Resort has been artfully crafted by the hands of well-traveled owners, wise in the ways of décor and B and B hospitality. The Old World charm is soothing and abundant. Walk through 500-year-old doors from Northern Italy, rest beside Italian-style fountains in the gardens and 14 acres of lush woods. Laze in the outdoor pool, play a game of giant outdoor chess or checkers or read in a hammock under the shade of pecan trees. The thread of intimate European-style B and B runs throughout, but experience a dash of the modern when you visit the luxury Texas spa. Watch the breeze rustle the leaves of the orchard tress as you rest on the “serenity” veranda until it is time for your therapeutic herbal facial or hot rock massage. As Elm Creek appropriately puts it, this is a destination, not just accommodation.
Dining at Elm Creek Manor is a culinary treat! Elm Creek raises their own organic herbs, fruits, vegetables and beef. Indulge in signature dinners by guest chefs, a fondue dinner or dinner and lunch baskets you can eat outside beside the pond or your own campfire.

Some items comprising the German Morning are potato and jalapeno pancakes, gorgonzola cheese blintzes and orange glazed ham steak. Finally, your Riviera Morning will begin with a berry and yogurt parfait, roasted asparagus and more in the middle and then will end with sourdough French toast.
There’s still more to do after breakfast at Outpost at Cedar Creek! Take a country road walk and birdwatch, expand your horizons with a Shakespearean play in the Barn at Winedale or simply watch the horizon at sunrise and sunset with a hot cup of coffee.

Our No. 9 pick is a grand, architecturally pleasing American Foursquare, a style popularized by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright – who, we are sure, would also approve of the superb experience inside of this magnificent Ingleside Bed and Breakfast.

When we began searching for high-quality Texas B and Bs, we weren’t sure both beds and breakfasts could be delivered in style. However, all doubts were laid to rest at our No. 10 pick, Granbury’s The Iron Horse Inn.
The Iron Horse Inn is a gabled, 100-year-old Craftsman-style mansion with a legacy that dates back to 1885. The antique elegance of the rooms, the tranquil garden hideaways and the authentic Southern hospitality combine for a B and B experience bursting with originality. The Cogdell Suite is the splurge every couple should indulge in – bedroom furniture from the original house, a solarium with 13 windows and a 6.5-ft.-claw-foot tub. The wine cellar, also dating back to the original house, is a close second with its limestone walls and private entrance to the gardens. The gardens themselves are brimming with 100-year-old pecan trees and 400-year-old oak trees. Stroll by the waterfall and koi pond or swing with your sweetie by wildflowers. Breakfast is not something to be missed; a three-course culinary delight on an 1880s oak dining table with other friendly guests and the owners who go above and beyond to make your Texas B and B vacation comfortable and memorable!
The Iron Horse Inn is the largest historic home in Granbury, TX. The original Victorian mansion, built by Daniel Cogdell, was destroyed in an early 1900s fire. It was rebuilt as a smaller, but still just as elegant mansion as the original. The name for the mansion is a tribute to Cogdell’s ties with the railroad.
