We know this list is for the top 10 Muskoka family resorts, but when we saw the Windermere House, we thought it was supposed to be on the Top 10 Muskoka Luxury Resorts list, instead. Does that mean family resorts can’t be luxurious? No! And this resort will prove you wrong if you do think that!
Originally established in 1870, this landmark resort has had a long time to grow and ripen into a renowned luxury destination on beautiful Lake Rosseau. Traditions are good, especially when it comes to hospitality, relaxation and all-ages endeavors, but here, you can take your classic family vacation to the next level. That means it’s okay to prefer fresh, yellowtail sushi over a weenie on a stick sans bun. Or, sit for a spell in the steam rooms after an invigorating workout on the rowing machine in the fitness center.
Of course, Windermere House offers all the classic family activities as well. In fact, there are more than 50 outdoor and indoor pursuits for the entire gang here! A sandy beach makes for a great sunbathing spot, while boating and watersports are always an option. Expect the unexpected at Windermere House.

Getting there: From Toronto, go north on Highway 400 until Barrie then north on Highway 11. Continuing on Highway 11 north of Bracebridge and look for Highway 141 (at Utterson). Take Exit 207, and turn left at the stop sign, which takes you back over the highway. Follow Highway 141 (turning right at the stop sign, at the intersection of Highway 141 and Muskoka Road 35) and continue on Highway 141 to Muskoka Road 24 (Deebank Road). Turn left on Muskoka Road 24 and continue until the stop sign at the intersection with Muskoka Road 4 (Windermere Road). Turn right onto Muskoka Road 4 (Windermere Road) and Windermere House will be up ahead.
