This Arizona golf course is a giant - and not just because, at 7,545 yards, it’s the longest course in the state. This is part of the dream of Horace Stoneham, who once owned the San Francisco Giants baseball team. It was built here as part of the Giants’ training facility. Today, it’s all yours.
It’s a championship course in so many ways - the traditional-style layout features three lakes and spectacular desert framing, and the signature no. 3 hole has a two-tiered elevated tee and a beautiful, dangerous pear-shaped green guarded by bunkers. This is also the spot where baseball greats like Willie Mays and Willie McCovey practiced their golf skills during spring training.
Of course, world-class golf like this requires lodging to match, and you’ll find it at Francisco Grand Hotel and Golf Resort. Most of its 101 guestrooms, suites and Penthouse suites are fresh from an $8.5 million renovation, which has restored them to the time when John Wayne and Pat Boone made this Arizona golf resort their favorite place to relax.
