How about a little trip to England? Too far? Too expensive for an intimate inn-style getaway? Well, let’s consider the Geneva Inn - a refreshing splash of European luxury on the shores of Wisconsin’s Geneva Lake.
When we say luxury, we’re talking about five-course dinners paired with excellent wines. We’re talking about oversized, vintage baths (substitute a whirlpool if you’d like) and a fantastic buffet breakfast each morning - continental, of course - and bedtime chocolates. The lakeview suites here provide sweeping views of the serene, yet exciting, Geneva Lake. The Geneva Inn is an English-style establishment through and through, without the air fare. Really, we’re talking about how the European-style charm of the Geneva Inn seems to permeate the entire town of Lake Geneva, starting with the historic 21-mile path around the lake that starts right at the inn’s front door. This is a place that makes a bike ride or boutique shopping or golf exquisitely romantic - especially when you look forward to your accommodations including thick, fluffy bathrobes at the end of each day.
Take the courtesy shuttle from the inn’s front door to the charm and excitement of downtown Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
The entire inn, including the Grandview Restaurant and room balconies, is now smoke-free.
From Milwaukee, take I-94 North to 894W/I-43 South. Follow I-43 toward Beloit. Exit south on Wisconsin Highway 120. Follow 120 South joining US Highway 12 East around Lake Geneva proper. After leaving 12 and joining US Highway 50 West, turn left at the first stop light staying on 120 South. Turn right at the second crossroad, Bloomfield Road, and follow it until it ends. Turn left toward Big Foot Beach State Park and The Geneva Inn is on the right-hand side just past the beach.

Winter Clove Inn is a northern Catskills family vacation. Which might seem a little unusual, considering that “inn” and “Catskills” can conjure up images of total romantic escapes. Well, you can do that here, too; but you’ll soon discover that Winter Clove isn’t your ordinary Catskills inn.
It’s actually situated in a clove, which we discovered is a group of mature trees, and in this case the result is stunning - a grand, 50-room inn on North Mountain that blends with the natural Catskills scenery. It turns out that this blending is well-earned: in 1863, the inn was a farmhouse that happened to be open to tourists and naturalists. Heck, there’s even a waterfall under the historic covered bridge on site pouring into Winter Clove Creek. So far, you’re still thinking romance, right? Sure. But there’s also a game room, in indoor an outdoor pool, tennis and basketball courts, a kid’s playground and a Carriage House that holds an antique bowling alley. And the guestrooms, each unique in the traditional inn style, are spacious enough for the whole family. The inn even has an American Plan and children’s rates!
