Pack your family or your sweetheart into the car and cruise on down to the classic 1950s-style Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre. Here, you can snuggle up with blankets and pillows in the comfort of your own car and never take a step outside. The northern Michigan landmark has been open since 1953.
Forget the poodle skirts; pajamas are welcome at Cherry Bowl. Park your car next to the original speaker posts or tune in to the FM radio station to listen to the vintage cartoons that play before the double-feature new releases. During the intermission countdown, head over to the concession stand, featuring real homemade grub! Crazy Harry’s BBQ Ribs and the Broasted Chicken dinners are a favorite. In the mood for lighter fare? Eat a handful of fresh popcorn smothered in real creamery butter and slurp down some soda.
Cherry Bowl is a museum in motion – from the original vacuum tube motiograph amplifiers and the 1953 popcorn popper still in use today to the screen tower widened for the newer-era Cinamascope movies. Along with its objective to provide a true 1950s family experience, Cherry Bowl only plays movies that are rated G, PG and PG-13 on occasion.
