See art exhibits explode with life – whether through color and texture or through concept – at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. For more than 40 years it has been supporting Sheboygan-area, national and international artists and welcoming guests to learn and explore life through art.
John Michael Kohler Arts Center is not just an art gallery, but a complete culturally-rich community center. Rotating exhibits feature various artists’ works, focusing on a wide range of concepts and directions in contemporary art. You will see craft-related forms, installation works, photography, cultural traditions, new genres and the work of self-taught artists. Even the public restrooms are part of the art center’s collections. Seven restrooms uphold the center’s philosophy that art can enliven, enrich and inform every aspect of our everyday lives.
The world-leading Artist-Environment Builders Collection holds more than 5,000 individual works by vernacular environment builders who transform their homes, yards or other personal surroundings into multifaceted works of art. Other art center features include Family Festivals, the Winter Theatre, the commercial exhibit space ARTspace Gallery and the ARTcafe. Adults and children can enroll in art, dance and music classes and workshops as well.

Dates and Prices: The John Michael Kohler Art Center is open daily Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is FREE. Donations accepted.
Highlights: You can enjoy tasty and authentic three-course dinners in the ARTcafe on Footlights Performance Series evenings.
Getting there: Take Exit I-43 onto Highway 23 East (Kohler Memorial Drive/Erie Avenue). Continue east to Sixth Street, turn right, and go four blocks south to New York Avenue. Turn right on New York Avenue.
