What’s more exciting than shootouts, saloon brawls, bank robberies and corrupt authority? Being at part of it of course! Once a true Western ghost town, the Old Tucson Studios is where some of Hollywood’s most famous Western films originated. And you can get in on all the gun-slinging action!
In 1939 Columbia Pictures bought this deserted town and replicated the city of Tucson as it was in the 1860s. Since then the site has been used as a backdrop for Old West films. Each new filming added on more historically accurate buildings such as saloons, cantinas, banks – even a jailhouse! Almost every Western-themed movie since the 1950s was filmed at this location, including classics like “Gunfight at the OK Corral,” “Rio Bravo” and “The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold.”
The rebirth of Western movies in the late 1980s and early 90s brought about films including “Three Amigos,” starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short, and “Wild Wild West” starring Will Smith. And this historical attraction is open to the public! Come watch wild stunts, saloon musicals, thrilling stunts and fun for the whole family. It’s a historical Tucson attraction you won’t want to miss!
