North Carolina’s rich history is preserved at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh. You’ll take an adventure with pirates on the high seas to historical battlefields of the Civil War. The museum of History contains interesting historical facts the whole family will enjoy.
The North Carolina Museum of History has been preserving the past for six centuries and accumulated over 150,000 artifacts. The museum covers North Carolina’s first Native American settlement to 2004 when state senator John Edwards ran for vice president. Children will have a blast at the Fun Zone that hosts educational activities for ages two and up.
The new exhibit is Knights of the Black Flag. Kids and adults can walk in the shoes of a swashbuckler with authentic clothing and equipment. You’ll experiment with weapons used during the days of piracy and even try to board a ship. This exhibit covers the role piracy played in ancient times, and how pirates continue to operate today.

Getting there: From the north or east, take the Capital Boulevard exit off I-440 north of Raleigh. Follow the Capital Boulevard (Downtown) signs. Continue south approximately two miles and turn left Edenton Street. The museum will be on the left. From the west or south, take the Person Street exit off of I-440. Proceed north for two miles. Turn left onto Edenton Street.

Dates and Prices: The North Carolina Museum of History is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
