The historic Stagville plantation will amaze you with its size. It’s the largest pre-Civil War plantation in North Carolina. The property spanned 30,000 acres and housed nearly 900 slaves. The plantation will leave you awestruck with its African and European cultural history.
Owned by the Bennehan and Cameron families, the Georgian style home was a marvel of its time, and will still impress you today. All of the interior woodwork is original and most of the paned glass windows imported from England are still intact. You can also tour the fields, farm houses, enslaved homes and the Great Barn.
Historic Stagville teaches you about African and European cultures through traditional games and activities. You’ll tour the property and get a sense of what it was like to live during the onset of the Civil War.
