We wondered: at what point does a beach become a “bathing club?” It turns out that Doctors Cave has been one since 1906, when it was a privately-owned beach property in Montego Bay. It’s still a members-only club today, and it still has the warm, crystal-clear waters to prove it.
In the 1920s, the gorgeous 78- to 84-degree F. Waters at Doctors Cave Bathing Club were revered for their healing powers. Whether that was actually true remains for speculation. But tourists began to flock to the beach to experience the water and the surroundings. Ever since this has been a premiere destination for the “elite” to come swimming and relaxing in Jamaica!
Today the beach is equipped with modern facilities and unexpected amenities. Changing rooms and lavatories, rentals, a cyber café and more are right on the gorgeously manicured beach. Cool down with a cocktail and a bite to eat at the Groovy Grouper Bar and Grill! If you frequent Jamaica, join the bathing club – a newly appointed clubhouse with pool table, veranda, group facilities and more is lavishly adorned and at your convenience!
