Your journey through Jamaican history is about to begin. Since the introduction of sugar cane in the 15th Century, Jamaica has gained the enviable reputation for producing the greatest rum in the world. You can tour Appleton Estate, where they’ve been producing the finest Jamaican rum since 1749!
An informative tour of the distillery details the production of rum. It starts as sugarcane, is converted into molasses, then sugar, then wine, then, finally into rum! Your Appleton Estate Rum tour will start right from your hotel! They’ll pick you up and bring you to the Estate where you’ll learn about its history. A tour of the distillery demonstrates the rum aging, distilling and blending process.
After your tour, try out all the great tasting rums in the Appleton lounge! And with a wide variety of rums, ranging in age, taste and strength, this won’t be a boring adventure! The tour concludes with handing out a complimentary bottle of Appleton rum to each tour member, before bringing you back to your hotel. Now that’s the meaning of Jamaican hospitality!

Fun facts: Appleton Rum became known as Bend Down or Ben Down. Back then it was illegal to sell rum of a certain proof in ordinary bars and shops and Appleton Rum was only sold in private clubs. But Appleton was so preferred by patrons they sold it anyway. It was not displayed, but kept under the counter. As it was not wise to ask loudly for Appleton Rum in the bar, the customer would whisper that he wanted a drink of Bend Down.
