At Magdalena Bay in Baja California Sur you’re in for the aquatic adventure of a lifetime! Every winter California Gray whales migrate to this 50-km-long bay to mate and give birth to their young. The warm saline waters make the perfect setting. And you have a front row seat!
Scientists have observed the mating of Gray whales in Magdalena Bay on the Sea of Cortez for over 30 years – so the whales are used to the presence of humans. This means you can get up close and personal with the massive mammals! Friendly experts will guide you into the bay by boat where the whales surface – if you’re lucky you can even reach out and touch the new-born calves!
Typically, tours include a ride into the bay on a wooden “panga” boat. Whales, dolphins, sea lions and more swim right up to your vessel, igniting a mixture of apprehension and excitement that culminates in a breathtaking, eco-friendly outing!
