Commemorate one of the last great U.S. grassroots campaigns of our time by traveling the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. Retrace the Civil Rights March with the 54-mile trek at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma and at the State Capitol in Montgomery.
Feel a part of the summit of the modern civil rights movement as you take the Martin Luther King, Jr. Street Walking Tour, which includes the First Baptist Church and the Carver Homes. Before you leave Selma, stop at the National Voting Rights Museum and the Old Depot Museum to learn more about the movement that helped inspire the passage of the Voting Rights Act allowing African-Americans to vote!
Even though most national trails are traversed on foot, it’s best to travel this one by car because of the long distance. But don’t worry; you won’t miss a thing as you follow almost exactly the original route the civil rights protesters did over 40 years ago. And once you arrive in Montgomery, make sure to stop at the Rosa Parks Museum and the Civil Rights Monument. See where Dr. King delivered one of his most noted speeches. This is ideal for family vacations and personal pilgrimages!
