If you hear the term “forever wild” used around here, it refers to the same thing the New York State Legislature was talking about in 1892 when it passed measures guaranteeing that its public lands would never be commercially developed. The result is the Vermont-sized Adirondack Park.
And if you hear the term “Blue Line,” that refers to the boundary around this six million acres of untouched wilderness, the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. The park is actually a rather complex network of public and private land, managed forests and Canadian Shield mountains, which makes it completely unique and far more diverse than any other parkland you can find.
It’s also a terrific place for nearly any outdoor activity you can think of. It’s home to 46 mountain peaks, a 2,000-mile hiking trail system - the longest in the nation - and more than two dozen established mountain bike trails, plus winter activities from ice climbing to cross country skiing to bobsledding and luge.
