On our list of Florida “firsts,” there’s one name that you’ve certainly heard of before – Ripley’s Believe It or Not! But you probably didn’t know that the first ever Ripley’s permanent museum is actually right here in St. Augustine!
The museum makes its home within an historic mansion – fitting, considering its location within historic St. Augustine. It was originally built by millionaire William Warden and his wife Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, but since 1950 it has been the one and only Ripley’s. The unique interior provides the perfect backdrop for the museum’s bizarre collection. There are actually more than 800 artifacts housed here – each one, it’s safe to say, a little bit weirder than the next!
Many of the pieces in the collection belonged to Robert Ripley himself, collected through years of travels. Take a tour of the building, explore the Interactive Gallery, then stop by the gift shop for souvenirs you won’t believe!
