For a double shot of history, make a stop at the Amelia Museum of History – learn a little something and take in the first spoken history museum in the state of Florida!
What makes the museum so unique are the twice-daily docent-led tours, continuing the oral tradition of storytelling, and an excellent way to absorb all of the island’s interesting stories! Tours follow a number of themes, from ghosts and holiday luminaries to neighborhood walking tours and hop-on bus tours.
The museum’s permanent exhibits trace Nassau County’s fascinating history, from sketches of the first residents in the Timucuan Village to Civil War artifacts. Here you can also discover the fascinating story of Fernandina’s eight flags. This tiny island is the only community to have been ruled under eight different flags and today each of these cultural influences can be tracked through its diverse history!
