For a sampling of what truly makes this area of Florida unique, Topsail Hill State Park is one of the finest places to visit. Virtually all of the natural landscapes are here - the beach, old-growth forests, the scrub and wetlands combine for a thrilling view of beach life like you haven’t imagined it.
To begin with, there are 3.2 miles of secluded, white sand beaches, the kind with sand dunes that tower more than 25 feet tall. This is a non-motorized area, so it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing. The nearby wetlands are a paradise for birdwatchers. You’ll also discover three rare and imperiled coastal dune lakes. Found almost exclusively on the Gulf Coast, these lakes were formed by the wind as it rearranged sand dunes and eroded rock over time. The lakes are home to breamfish, catfish, bass.
Park rangers provide interesting interpretive programs and tours throughout the year, featuring topics such as Fishing in the Surf, Butterfly Walk, Shorebird Safari, Bombs Away, the Choctawhatchee Beach Mouse and much more. This is also a great place learn about ancient sea turtles.
