Okay, so you can’t fly very high in a mine. Or can you? Founded in 1887, Country Boy Mine is one of the oldest mines in Colorado. Back then it was well-known for its gold and silver; during both World Wars, it provided lead and zinc. Now it’s been renovated and turned into a well-preserved museum.
For 45 minutes, become a miner at an authentic mine in Summit County. You will be supplied with a hard hat as you tour through the mines 1,000 feet underground. Relive the life of a miner as all your senses become engaged in this unique experience. Listen hard enough and you will hear the authentic sounds of the miners. Pan for gold in the Eureka Creek and keep whatever you can find as a souvenir. Observe the old photographs and tools and feel yourself really connecting with the miners of the past.
For more of a thrill, take a ride down the 55 foot ore chute. After leaving the mine, spend some time with the gentle burros. They love people and kids adore them. The Country Boy Mine will quickly become a favorite destination for you and your family.
