It’s always important to share the passionate exploration of how a region like Estes Park, with all of its natural beauty, is developed. Which is precisely why the Estes Park Museum was created by volunteers in 1962.
At the museum you can learn about the indigenous Ute, Shoshone, and Comanche who knew the power of this land, whose relics were here (though they were gone) when Joel Estes arrived in the mid-nineteenth century. You can see exhibits about the healing tendency of the high airs, and others that will make you shudder at what once passed for dentistry! You can also view an original Stanley Steamer car, which was the main transportation in the quaint downtown at the turn of the twentieth century.
Catch the bus for the Boulder County Ghost Town Tour and the Park Historic Lodges and Homesteads Tour with Ken Jessen, your knowledgeable guide. The Estes Park Museum will definitely deepen your understanding of this special area.
