If you've never heard of Long Caye at Glover's Reef until now, that's kind of the point. It's the epitome of an adventurous getaway, in the midst of the Caribbean without the fancy swimming pools and yachts. You won't find a butler or concierge here, but you will find plenty to keep you excited.
Even the improvements on Long Caye - in this case, a Water Sports Center - were built with some trepidation, being that the whole idea is to keep development to a minimum. But the result is magical: the construction is rustic by design, to better blend in with the natural island vegetation. The power comes from the sun and wind, with a little help from propane to cool your beer. In effect, you get your own uninhabited tropical island to play on, with an onsite dive shop and lots of surfboards, kayaks and sailboards.
There are some luxuries here. The scenery is spectacular, the thatched cabanas are charming and the kitchen is always well-stocked; at mealtime you are served by and dine with a Garifuna chef. This is an exclusive experience - by vacation package only!
