This is a beautiful property and beautiful course.
We played the front nine on the Torch Golf course and we were commenting on how we would surely be back. We were already talking about making plans for a longer term golf vacation.
During our play on the front nine, we were caught by 3 different twosomes. We graciously allowed all of them to play through, without them even needing to ask. This naturally put us behind normal course speed. We weren't too concerned, because we were really enjoying ourselves.
We stopped at the turn for a hot dog & a soda and things turned ugly. Our foursome tee'd of on the 10th, when a threesome that was playing a scramble showed up. We decided to allow them to play through. While they were teeing off a twosome showed up. We told them to go ahead and play through as well. As the other two groups advanced, we followed them out. While we were waiting for the twosome to finish up on the green, a foursome tee'd off behind us.
This foursome was very impatient. Not realizing we were waiting out the group in front of us, they called and complained that we were playing too slow.
At the next tee the ranger showed up and informed us we had to let them play through.
We were going to let them, but after we had all tee'd off, the following foursome was just chipping onto the green. They were not playing any faster than us so we went ahead with our play. By the time we found our balls and were taking our second shots. The next foursome showed up to the tee and again called in a complaint on us.
The ranger came back by and informed us we must let the foursome, two, twosomes and a threesome play through.
We informed him, of what we observed and let him know we needed to finish up so we could make the 4 hour drive home before it got too late. He quoted our initial tee off time and told us we were playing too slow. He said it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes per hole.
We explained to him how many groups we had allowed play through and also explained we stopped for lunch at the turn. This accounted for the extra time we were on the course. He didn't want to hear it. Finally after arguing with him for about 5 minutes, we agreed to move ahead 2 holes and come back to catch the holes we were skipping after we got through the 18th. He told us we needed to "Step lively and play as quickly as possible. If you get close to the cup, pick up your ball and move on to the next hole. This will improve your game..."
So we moved up the 2 holes.
Well the ranger decides he's going to time us from here on out. He followed about 75 yards behind us for the next 2 holes.
Now none of us are pros by any means and we all duff a shot from time to time. But this made us so uncomfortable, we all started trying to rush our games, and we all just fell apart. We ended up leaving 5 holes unplayed.
I've been playing golf on and off for over 20 years, and never have I been so insulted or treated so poorly by golf course personnel. It turned what was a great day and a group of very satisfied golfers, with plans on returning for a longer golf vacation in the future. Into a group of angry disgruntled customers, who's weekend golf outing was turned from a great time to a terrible, insulting experience.
We let the pro shop know how unhappy we were and they gave us credit for half of our greens fee toward a future round of golf at A-Ga-Ming. Unfortunately with the truly inconsiderate way we were treated, none of us could say we would ever make use of the credit.
In closing, I guess unless you are a better than average golfer. This is not the course to reserve a tee time.
