Family Reunion
Fontana has been a favorite for family reunions from its very beginning. It's central location in the Smokies makes it an easy drive from most locations in the eastern US and a short drive from the Knoxville-Maryville Tennesee Metro Airport (TYS) for guests that are flying in for the reunion. The full menu of outdoor recreation and resort activities provide all the entertainment anyone in the family can imagine.
Fishing
The resort offers free launching from the Fontana Marina located on the western end of the pristine, 30 mile long Fontana Lake. The Marina rents a full line of watercraft for a day on the water including pontoon and bass boats, kayaks, canoes and jet skis. The shipstore has everything guests will need for a day on the water.
Historical
The location of the resort has a long and interesting history. In 1942, construction of the massive Tennessee Valley Authority Fontana Dam began. Fontana Village was originally built as a town for the workers and their families who came from all around the country to work on the project.
Mountain
Fontana Village is the perfect base camp for outdoor enthusiasts. The resort maintains over 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that vary in terrain from the casual creek-side hike to some of the most exciting back-country mountain bike trails in the mountains. There are also opportunities for whitewater rafting!
Nature
Fontana Village Resort's location at the southwestern entrance into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and bounded by the Nantahala National in the south, makes it the ideal location for nature lovers. Wildlife enthusiasts can explore by foot in the forest, by car on the scenic byways or by boat along the more than 230 miles of shoreline. View the elk in the National Park's Cades Cove or watch in awe as the bald eagles and great blue herons ride the air currents along the shores of Fontana Lake.
