Originally it was a mansion built by a whaling captain in 1835. Purchased in 1925 by Lillian Cook Townsend - a descendent of one of the oldest family lines in America - the house became an inn. Today, it retains much of its original charm, with modern conveniences like Internet and flat-screen TVs.
