The historic Athenaeum Room offers many all-inclusive summer getaways. Guests may book under the American Plan throughout their stay or eat lunch or dinner at their leisure in the hotel’s restaurant or guests may book one of the hotel’s packages which includes the Chautauqua Institution gate pass. The gate pass gives you access to most of the 35 other events that are offered each day at Chautauqua Institution.

Founded in 1874, this outdoor school for Sunday School teachers was to become an international affair, bringing visitors to one place to hear the very best speakers and entertainers. Stay at the historical Athenaeum Hotel, built in 1881 in grand Second Empire-style. The hotel has provided accommodations for distinguished speakers and performers. Thomas Edison is said to have used the floor-to-ceiling windows of the dining room to escape overzealous admirers. In 1996, the Athenaeum became the Executive Mansion of the President of the United States when President William Clinton spent a week at the hotel preparing for his debate with Sen. Robert Dole.
